Tracking your Team - Port Adelaide
Some surprising losses, the possible addition of Andrew Hayes and one other AFL delisted player.
Plenty of the usual Power/Magpies drama. Any chance of finals at last for the Maggies?

Be interested to see what happens with the captaincy.
Big Jimmy has done a great job leading us through some very bleak years on and off field, but I would like to see a fresh face given the job to guide us back up the ladder.
Summerton would be, IMO, a good pick as would the recently signed Jacob Surjan. Surj might not be so young, but there is little doubt he is the "action speak louder than words" type leader.
Slattery, Surjan and Hayes add some experience to a side needing to replace some serious lost talent. Clayton and Dolling wont be easily replaced and I'm somewhat disappointed we wont get to see Callum Wilson improve and show what many of us figured he was capable of.
For mine - 5th.

What's the story with Dolling, Booney?
He seemed to be a very good player with plenty of footy in front of him.

He's headed off to coach in the country, I believe, r&b.
He did have plenty of good footy in him and IMO would have been another captaincy candidate. He was our back line marshall in recent years and we will seriously miss his foot-skills and leadership back there.
$$$$ talk.

Must be.
Westies lost a good player for the same reason after the salary cap problem meant players had to take a cut.

Don't be at all surprised to see him still play SANFL this year. Down the road.

Henry Slattery might not yet play for the Maggies?

Probably same for all Essendon players who face a nervous wait.
Hopefully we won't get an article like this on all of them.

Judd Robson needs a knee recon after injuring himself in the trail at Alberton on Friday night.
Unlikely to go LARS, so the big lad is out for 12 months. Tough luck for the lad who looked to have turned a corner with his fitness.

That's really bad luck. Juddy's a great lad and I was hoping he'd do well at Port.
I remember him playing terrific footy for West's juniors.
Good luck, Judd.

Reading elsewhere that a couple of fringe players have decided to leave the Maggies, despite playing in the trial game against the Power on Saturday night. Corey Grove was one mentioned. Have you have you heard anything about this Booney?

Has he left Millsy, or just signed with Port Districts as most fringe players get advised to do? That is, have a fall back amatuer league club.

Booney, is there a formal alliance between the Maggies and Districts?
I know many players that come and go between the 2 of them, but just thought that was more geographical convenience.

Sorry Chambo, missed this question. I dont believe there is anything formal in place. Purely geographical and the fact Districts have remained in or around Div 1 where as North Haven, Rosewater, Seaton, SMOSH have all moved up or down the amatuer divisions in recent times.
For those interested, the Magpies have an internal trial tomorrow night ( March 8 ) at 6pm at Alberton. I'll go along and have a look I think.

My lad plays for Districts in the juniors. Think he is in U18 this year.
Lots of his mates both younger and older come and go between Maggies and Districts.
A number of the North Haven juniors have moved to Districts last year.
When you think about it these clubs provide quite a feeder to the Maggies.
Whether many of them go to the Eagles too I don't know. Probably are some I would expect.
There is a geogrpahical glut of sanfl clubs in the western suburbs and only so many amateur clubs to feed them. I can't think of too many once you get past SMOSH. Henley, Lockleys and Finders Park probably the Eagles feeders.
Not sure if this is the same for other sanfl clubs.

Re: Tracking your Team - Port Adelaide
Port will be interesting this year. They seem to have lost a lot of fringe players and a couple of good ones and picked up some good ones.
Will that be enough?
Their recruiting of Henry Slattery was aided massively by the 'one club' sitaution that wasn't supposed to advantage the Magpies.

Not being privvy to any of the negotiations ( ie - whether employment was offered first prior to taking on a playing role ) I can't comment, and doubt any one else, other than with innuendo, could do the same.
So, he left Westies and didnt come back, with the turmoil currenly at Milner Rd do you blame him?
