2 games at Adelaide Oval for $14.00
or
1 game at a suburban ground for $14.00 ?????
We are a professional league. I personally don't think its a great look but each to their own I guess.
It is just an opinion.

Officially 8,351 attended week one of the finals , up 4.2% on last year's figure of 8,013.

Fair effort on face value in my opinion, however I wonder how many actually paid to get in, plus remember there was no afl on over the weekend, so is it really a good result?

Hard to say Bayman, free tickets existed last year as well.
There was no AFL on .... but the mainstream media hardly gave any extra coverage to the SANFL finals during the week.
Losing Central will hurt crowd figures next week as of the 5 I think they would bring the 2nd most supporters besides Sturt.
Last year we had Eagles, West, Port & Central .... 9,247 turned up
This year Eagles, South, Sturt & Adelaide .... with a Crows home final on at Adelaide Oval the night before.

Crows had the home final yesterday!!!
As for the crowd, does the sanfl give out the figures of how many actually paid to get in? If not should they? I think they should just to be open & honest & Btw I don't think say 80% using free entry is a bad thing, just curious of the break down

So Far
2015
- Elim Final Weekend - 8,013
- Semi Final Weekend - 9,247
- Prelim Final Weekend - 7,218
TOTAL ...................................... 24,478
2016
- Elim Final Weekend - 8.351
- Semi Final Weekend - 9,029
- Prelim Final Weekend - 6,645
TOTAL ...................................... 24,025 (Down 453, 1.8%)
Last years Grand Final attracted 25,625
So if this year's Eagles v Sturt game gets 26,079 or more then we actually have growth in finals crowds this year.

I would think that will be about what we will get (25-27K) on Sunday...
Would have been at least 10-15K less if the result was difference yesterday...

Re: is the sanfl finals series doomed for low crowds?
Would it have been 6500 Sturt and 145 Crows yesterday?
Aside from the flags at the southern end, I didn't really see many in the tri-colours.
Saw more Bays, Roosters and even South supporters in their colours.
Not as much fun when there's nobody to banter with.
Couldn't even yell at the umps seeing as the frees went our way too.

Why is that Phil ?
Pretty obvious, waddyamean...
The Crows in the Grand Final would have less support than the genuine SANFL clubs will...
Are you going to the Grand Final on Sunday?

Should be a good crowd for a few reasons.
1 A great promotion form the league which will entice more people
2 Sturt made it and they have a large supporter base .
Unbelievable paranoia

Yes I'm serious.

My PHILosophy is simple.
If some one criticisises my club with incorrect facts I will correct them.
If some one puts out questions or rumours about my club I will provide information to clear it up.
Call that "defensive", "insecure", "pathetic" if you want or as you have, you have two goes directly at me this week and I haven't said a word.
Yes Eagles wont be responsible for growth in the Grand Final crowd this year, because we were there last year and so you would expect similar numbers of Eagles fans to turn up.
Yes I expect there will be more Sturt fans than Eagles one there, the Double Blues have the largest membership in the SANFL this year and are #1 for crowds over the season.
Their resurrection on and especially OFF the field has been sensational and something every Sturt fan involved should be very proud of.
As for the Eagles we have a couple of surprises in store tomorrow to help ensure our support is seen & heard.
Whilst we have grown in recent years from having one of the smaller ACTIVE supporter bases to an average sized one there is so much more to do before we can match the big 3 of Norwood, Sturt & Glenelg.... that may take a generation to work through.

Given the press reports this week of Sturt's financial woes in 2012 and Glenelg's campaign this year to save the club I agree the league needs both to do well if we are to stay with 8 traditional clubs.
Surprising how the clubs with such largest supporter bases to draw from can be the ones that financially struggle the most.
Not sure about Norwood, I think most of us not from the Parade are happy their 3 peat has passed.

Since 2000 .... last 16 seasons
Eagles 7 Grand Finals .... avg crowd 27,147
Sturt 1 Grand Final ..... avg crowd 35,187
Based on that a crowd prediction around 30,000 seems reasonable, I think most will put the AFL reserves issue aside here to back their team to play for a premiership.

Thank you.
Yes I did stuff up Sturt's figure, thanks for the pick up, not a major change in average however.
Sturt 2 Grand Finals .... avg crowd 35.417
(2002 - 35,187, 2009 - 35,647)
As for why I chose 2000 to start? Why not? That is when the Eagles started their run of Grand Finals (previous to that was 1994). This is their 8th in those 17 seasons, why would I skip the 1st of them?
However, if you want to go further back to 1991. (The start of the Crows era) covering the previous 25 seasons.
Sturt - 3 Grand Finals .... total 115,672, average 38,557
Eagles - 9 Grand Finals .... total 273,347, average 30,371
Hopefully that is as far back as you want me to go otherwise I will need to throw in the 66K+ that attended Port v Sturt in 1976 and the 13,000 that attended the same matchup in 1915 plus many others.

waddayamean wrote:I think the largest crowd of late was the Norwood V Port GF crowd and the Central V Sturt. Sturt invloved seem to get over 30 thousand where when the Eagles are in there its around the mid 20's. So knowing those facts I think a bit over 30 tomorrow.
It would be great for the competition for Glenelg, Sturt and Norwood to be the top 3 teams for a while as they bring they numbers and I think the SANFL need that in the current climate.
The two biggest crowds of recent time are Norwood vs Port 38,644 in 2014 and Norwood vs North 36,685 in 2013 -

Answering my initial question, i'd have to say that about 10 minutes before the grand final starts it looks to be a bumper crowd, I'm not one for pre match entertainment but mental as anything were very good.
Well done to all that have come today
