Not South or West, but a combination of the two?
Don't know about any official salary cap conjecture, though.

Not sure why the cloak and dagger, but this would be the Bays talking to Mark Austin I'd assume.

They may well be but you would assume wrongly in this instance.

for the record, Bays are talking to Mark, however we're not the only club in discussions with him

Hearing a magpie top up player who played all year except the grand final could be at a new club next year

Wouldnt blame him, that whole excuse of a sore shoulder was just a smokescreen for them to fit that dud Butcher in.

Quite possible, but the AFL finals were all that really mattered at Alberton. That's the way it will be from now on.bayman wrote:Aceman wrote:Bruggemann id imagine.BloodnTars wrote:Hearing a magpie top up player who played all year except the grand final could be at a new club next year

Read on a country footy forum that West Adelaide players Scott Bricknell and Kurt Thompson are signing with the Blackwood Football Club?
Any truth to this, that you're aware of, Lee?

Is it true that changes have been made to the drafting monies received, so that the combined income from all draftee's now gets split equally among the 8 foundation clubs?

Yes, I believe that's correct.
Both of them have struggled with injury and the demands of league footy.
Scott has been with West since junior days and Kurt for many years.
Good luck to both of them.

I believe that's true, Scrunch, although it may be that there's some 'top-up' amount divided between clubs based on numbers drafted per club.
I think the clubs are happy with this arrangement, but I can't vouch for all of them.

That's a blow to Westies, particularly with Bricknell, who I rated - when fit and firing...

Will become clear in time.
Not Darryl Smith or Dennis Browne. Can confirm those two guys are going around again in 2015, if RPH are covering SANFL...
Not either of those gentlemen, who do a great job. Person involved will be a loss but someone very close to the SANFL will be very happy to see them gone.

I know my club was against it, but before I knew that and the concept was suggested to me, I was very strongly against it. On the surface it seems a disincentive toward a club developing their own talent to the maximum extent. Would like to hear the argument in support of the concept before taking a final stance on it.

I guess it takes a bit of the heat out of the zoning issue. Clubs will obviously still want maximum participation rates etc and those who develop their zones best will probably reap other rewards but the complaint from clubs (who perceive themselves as having poor zones) about not getting drafting income is taken out of the equation.

OK thanks for that. I wouldn't know the discrepancies between the clubs zones, participation rates and quality of juniors, so perhaps there's something in that. However I'm still not sure it's enough to agree with the changes. I'd hope my club now invests it's time focussing solely on developing quality SANFL players and just taking a slice of the other clubs efforts. And that to me is the huge flaw in the new setup.

Re: Rumour File
It doesn't affect the argument one way or another, but the Eagles and Norwood will have a few players drafted from the old Port Magpies area that they've 'inherited'.
Each club would have already signed the most promising juniors in the area they will lose.
A big windfall for no effort under the old system.

Is there a recently delisted AFL player who could be returning home to SA but may not play for his oringal SANFL club?

If no answer to that, eartotheground, is the person in question a former ABC TV commentator in some capacity?

Not sure what you are getting at with this, Phil. People getting pestered to answer to you on things is a habit that is a bit concerning. I'm sure you will find out in time if it is necessary.
