James Gowans Tribunal Result

Central District’s James Gowans has accepted a reprimand from the Incident Review Panel for a striking charge.

That was when James got stuck into Brad Mercer when he cleaned up Josh Waldhuter with a pretty big hit. James gave Brad a little jab to the bread basket and gave away a 50m penalty.

Having watched the tape of this game, as well as seeing it live, I must say that I am surprised that James Meiklejohn's off the ball stike on Kyle Jenner AND dangerous 'dump' tackle on Jenner, again, wasn't cited?

I've often wondered about the reprimand. I mean, what do they actually say to the player, and what effect does it have?

To a young player, maybe the reprimand is sufficient, but to an old stager like Gowans, he would hear worse coming from opposition players each week. A reprimand would be like water off a duck's back.

You may as well say to him, "You did bad, don't do it again, don't forget to pick up your bag of lollies on the way out".
