If it pushes the coach I think that's a good thing anyway. Ego's can bring down any organisation, no place for them. Handle the heat or get out of the kitchen.
I think it was more aimed at the playing group. It's great that they are so young and are basically growing up together - but I think this has led to a bit of a blasé 'lad' culture.
I wouldn't be surprised is Talia cops a bit of flack for being so meticulous in his preparation. Friday night was a bit of a whack back at them I reckon, and good on him for it.
They are a great bunch of young lads with plenty of talent to boot, but this pre-season is a real crossroad for them. It's time for them to stop being boys and start being men, and I'm really happy Talia has flagged that from within.

His "we were so close" comment is the one that resonates most, along with how "time flys".
Key personnel in football clubs, players in the age group of 24-28 can very quickly become 28+ with their best football behind them and going backwards as a group.
Especially with recent draft sanctions and elder players form falling away included.

Well put Booney.
You just have to look at the mob your lads belted on the weekend. Carlton is another example.

McKernan and Graham gone, any others you would have cut right away Ginge?
Petrenko and/or Porplyzia? With Betts, Cameron and midfielders rotating through the forward half it's unlikely these guys will get much game time.

I think both Petrenko and Porps are gone. Neither has shown much at SANFL level and others have gone past.
Reilly is another who has gone bckwards. If he did not have a year on his contract I suspoect he would get the tap on the shoulder but I suspoect he will play most of next year in the SANFL unless he wants a move to a development club like GWS or join Bernie at Melbourne.

McKernan & Graham confirmed (the club must have a ruckman lined up though via trade to cut the only 2 backup ruckmen on the list).
Rutten retired.
Porplyzia is done for sure.
Petrenko hanging by a thread as you say with Betts, Cameron and the likes of Grigg, Kerridge and Lyons who can rotate through the forward line.
One of Luke Thompson & Sam Shaw might find themselves in strife.
Brent Reilly will stay on the list, but his decline has been very disappointing.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Lyons traded back to a Melbourne based club in exchange for a key defender, with L Thompson or Shaw then getting the cut.
Also on the flip side, I wouldn't be surprised to see Jake Kelly promoted to the senior list.
We need to improve our defence and find a backup ruckman in this off season, possibly at the expense of some of our midfield stocks unfortunately.

Re: Adelaide
One suggestion that I would give to the AFC would be to have a good long close look at Michael Talia, brother of Daniel Talia who has spent most of the year in the VFL for the Western Bulldogs, yet who has not been de listed and is retained in their squad for next year. My feeling is that a move over to play in the same side as his brother might be what he needs to take his game to the next level. He would be a project player for the AFC but could very well get a game in 2015. The Western Bulldogs would not keep him on their list if they did not see something in him and I suggest that Adelaide might be better placed to get it out of him. No doubt there would be at least one lad from the AFC keen to return to Vic in exchange. Which might well take his game to the next level also.

Adelaide has their new CEO :
http://www.afc.com.au/news/2014-09-15/fagan-named-ceo
The Adelaide Football Club has appointed one of the country’s leading sports administrators as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Andrew Fagan joins the Crows from Australian Rugby Union, where he held the position of General Manager of National Teams, Competitions and Rugby Operations.
He has been responsible for the strategic and commercial management of the Wallabies, Australia’s Rugby Sevens Teams, National Competitions, all Test Match operations, Australian Super Rugby, and the national governing body’s relationship with the International Rugby Board.
South Australian-born Fagan is also a former long-time Chief Executive Officer of Australia’s most successful Super Rugby Club, the University of Canberra Brumbies.
He has held a number of sports management roles at the Australian Sports Commission and Australian Institute of Sport, with a focus on national policy development and fostering of programs in the Asia-Pacific.
Fagan has also delivered management consultancy advice to national sporting organisations across a range of strategic, commercial and high performance matters.
Adelaide Football Club Chairman Rob Chapman said Fagan was the standout candidate after a long and exhaustive search.
“Andrew has an extensive background in sports administration, and is the ideal person to take our Club forward,” Chapman said.
“He has been a senior executive at a governing body and also led a successful elite sporting club.
“Andrew has done in recent times, much of what our Club needs to achieve in the next few years.”
Fagan, who holds a Bachelor of Sports Management and Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the University of Canberra, is excited about the challenges ahead.
“The Crows are a strong national brand, boasting a world class stadium, a loyal and passionate supporter base, and talented playing squad,” Fagan said.
“In saying that, there is a great deal of upside still to be realised both on and off the field and I am looking forward to maximising those opportunities.”
Fagan will start at the Club early next mont

I very much like that they have gone outside the box with this one. Like his resume. Like that he is fresh to AFL.
Looking forward to seeing what he brings to the table.

So far the key reactions I've seen are:
- His name has 'fag' in it, we might get teased;
- He has creepy eyes, and;
- He doesn't speak official enough.
Dear oh dear.

Worth noting is that it seems that the AFC has finally fixed their 'leaky boat'.
No one predicted this appointment at all. Likewise, I've noticed chatter about potential recruits/trades, senior assistant, and recruitment manager being minimal also.
Nice work from the footy club (finally).

Good point.
Usually Caroline Wilson would break that story, not the club itself.
Interesting footnote that has nothing to do with Adelaide. Did 107 people seriously consider their skill set adequate for the AFC to consider them for the role?
Seems like an extraordinary number of people looking to take on a role that you would think is very much aimed at a small group of individuals.

Rucci has been all over the AFC for a few years now too, seemed to have a direct line into the place.
He's gone very quiet now, besides reporting on speculation (Tex to Port), or opinion pieces (the Danger auction).
Not sure about the 107 people (I'd say a fair percentage 30/40 would've been a fair way off), but it was an international search, and the AFC for all their recent faults is one of the strongest sporting brands in the country, making the CEO position a pretty attractive one.

So does that make Nigel Smart the Artful Dodger in this scenario?

Someone has got the sack I reckon. My guess if Bickley which isn't really massive news, but they're overhyping it to make it sound massive because he's a premiership captain.
