The AFC have stuck with tradition and have re-appointed another South Adelaide player to the captaincy. Hope he will do as well as Mark Bickley did! - From the SAFC facebook page!

Very disappointed to hear of Bailey's suspension today, despite Melbourne being found not guilty.
The conspiracy theorist in me is suggesting that the AFL only dishes penalties to those clubs capable of absorbing them.
Thankfully he can still remained employed by the club, he just can't be involved in any match day or player contact roles until round 16.

So are they penalising Adelaide (again) or Melbourne? Hmm....

Re: Adelaide
Maybe (in hindsight) the AFL knew that Bailey was likely to be suspended when they gave out the Trigg penalty which is why the penalty was a little on the leniant side?

Melbourne are NOT GUILTY of tanking
yet Melbourne fc, Connolly & Bailey get fined as if they are Guilty so what is their crime ?
to me it suggests the AFL wont say publically they tanked but dish out penalties anyway

Re: Adelaide
By similar collolary if Trigg, Harper and Reid were guilty of the Salary Cap tampering, why did Adelaide get fined $300K?
2 officers of Melbourne FC are guilty but the club isn't.
3 officers of Adelaide FC are guilty but the club is.
Can someone please explain this to me.
I think Sir Humphrey Appleby, Denny Crane and Ally McBeal must comprise the AFL judiciary.

Nope, don't think anyone can. This is the AFL, it's not important for anything to make sense.

Sorry I think I made a mistake.
Apparently Melbourne were fined $500K, but they were not guilty.
Maybe someone can explain that one too!
That "high moral ground" that King Andy and his court hold, must be on top of a mountain in Tibet, they are that holy. Probably have his sights on the Pope for tanking now!

Yep, an exercise in how to vainly explain how the penalty you want to give fits the facts that say totally the opposite.
Not Guilty, M'Lord, fined half a mill

A fair few opinion pieces on the interwebs this morning absolutely hammering the AFL about this one.
Have not seen one supporting their stance yet.

Re: Adelaide
A tough one really, depends on how the team travels. A fringe player at the moment but if Adelaide get off to a poor start then his experience will see him back in full time IMO. On the flip side If they get off to a cracking start then he could slip out of the side all together (which I would hate to see).
Odds are he'll start the year as 'super-sub' off the bench.
He showed last year that he is very versatile in that role and can provide an immediate impact either forward or back if required.
It also depends on how the young fellas in defence go TBH. He may have a permanent return to defence if none of them step up to take Michael Doughty's place as the go-to defender for the opposition's small forward.
