Re: Adelaide
Here's a hypothetical for you - if we rewound the clock to when Trigg was still in charge and Roo wasn't on the board, do you think this appointment would have been endorsed?

Go stir crazy wondering about what if's like that mate. I think in a lot (not all) of cases Trigg was the fall guy at AFC and not necessarily the root of all evil that he is often portrayed as.

Not good at all. Updates this morning make it sound like he is doing as okay as one can in his situation though which is good to hear.
Probably a bit premature to discuss, but I think this will probably see his playing career over. 31 years old, on the fringe, and now a pretty full on head injury. If I was in his situation I'd be pulling the pin personally.

you may be right Gn but if i was Brent i wouldn't be pulling the pin as i'd want my contract honored, i'd presume he'd have financial obligations & the contract money would be a big part of his commitments
another lad having a week off after a heart arrhythmia.....i missed his full name on the radio but thought it was Kyle something........
a full & speedy recovery to both players

Bayman - Kyle Hartigan I believe is the player
as for Brent, you would hope that the club would look after the player given the service he has given to the club, but unfortunately at the end of the day it is business, so who knows....
hopefully both make it back onto the park

Bit of a scary couple of days for the club.

I hope both are on the road to recovery.
Quite scary the Reilly one, I heard he was "breathing unassisted and talking to family".....clearly at some point he was worse off than that.
Terrible news for a player and his family and I hope he comes out the other side of this unaffected.

From what I can gather the Kyle Cheney one isn't too serious, just a week off needed at this stage.
On the other hand, the Reilly one sounds like it was quite serious. They said last night that his skull was basically shattered into pieces in one spot, and then this morning on the radio they said the players that witnessed it needed some counselling.
Full on.

Now the dust has settled a bit and by all reports Reilly is recovering well - it's interesting to have a look at what this might mean at the selection table.
You'd have to say that Van Berlo is looking even more certain to come off half back now, and also provide a bit of experience down there. The more the season is closing on us, the more I like the idea of him back there holding the youngsters together.

I don't think Reilly is any loss for the Crows. It will be interesting to see if Walsh can progress the development of the young back half. If it all clicks they could have the defensive group sorted for quite a long time.

Re: Adelaide
Quite a bizarre article by Rucci in the chip wrapper today:
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/the-adelaide-crows-have-become-invisible-in-their-own-backyard-writes-michelangelo-rucci/story-fnia3xzy-1227235911466
He's pitching the lack of stuff coming out of the AFC as a bad thing, but after the last few years it is fantastic as far as I'm concerned.
Let the new "#1 team" in town have the limelight, no skin off my nose.
I'm bloody stoked about how my Club has gone about things this pre-season so far. Things seem to be far more modest, methodical, realistic. The Club has stopped the hard sell, and just knuckled down on it's footy, and let me tell you it's damn refreshing.
Nope, the fact that Rucci hasn't had a story to 'break' for months fills me with great joy to be honest.

Re: Adelaide
I think Rucci missed something, the AFL released figures the other day, showing :
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/h ... 7233781930
ADELAIDE
So far in 2015: 57,103
This time last year: 49,000
Members in 2014: 57,231
PORT ADELAIDE
So far in 2015: 54,342
This time last year: 41,200
Members in 2014: 55,750
So the chump missed out on this little tid bit, pretty much making his whole article bollocks.
On the other "silent" point, is it the tail wagging the dog, or the other way around? Adelaide have given the media plenty to write about since Tippett, Trigg, Sanderson etc etc.
So while the club is taking stock and making changes internally the media has nothing to report. It's not like Adelaide have just disappeared, is it?
They're just doing things a little better. ( Hopefully not for long.... )

I'd say that Rucci has lost his inside contacts somewhere along the line as well.
It's like the article is trying to goad some kind of negative response, like any publicity is good publicity or something. I'm not even sure of the point he's trying to make.
As far as I'm concerned I wish the Club had been operating in this manner for the last decade. They've finally decided to put the 'Hollywood' sign away and let their football do the talking instead. I can't see how this could be a negative.

Regarding membership figures I think Rucci is trying to say that Adelaide haven't been pumping up their tires against those recently released figures.
Personally that says to me that the Club has read the vibe of their fan base well and has recognised that we don't care about these off-field 'wins' anymore.
Number of members means ****. It's all about the trophy cabinet.

I could survive the Chianti, but their grappa is deadly.

Totally agree, GN.
I hope the Crows play their footy this year in this type of understated, team first style, instead of the 'Hollywood' style of the past.

Re: Adelaide
Adelaide are up their with Collingwood as the most underachieving sides in the competition IMO.
Both are incredibly resource rich and have a huge loyal supporter base, and yet both have failed to translate any of that into consistent premierships.
This in the main is because they both have been too content in being off-field winners IMO.
"Look at all our supporters, look at all our facilities, look at our bottom line, aren't we awesome?"
"What's that near-empty glass case over there?"
"Oh, nothing important - did I tell you about our membership figures?"

Adelaide post a loss of $400k for 2014.
Someone made money at Adelaide Oval last year. The question is, who? The SMA?
We'll never know, more chance of getting an invite to join the Stonecutters.

Well it definitely isn't the SMA. their profit is only sufficient to cover their costs and levies.
Adelaide's result would have been affected by many large expenditure items, including several 'one-off' amounts.
Without those, they would have made a tidy profit. Add the new uplift for next year and it will only be bad management or frowds that stop them doing very well.
