Yep, lost a lot of players from this years Prelim final, last count possibly 10-11.
draft, retirements, and one or two moving on.
we will lose 4 kids in the draft- 3 of whom played league footy this year.
I believe that the retirements are mainly due to ,age, family committments, lack of opportunity in some cases and basically they can receive more money elsewhere with half the committment required to play sanfl league footy.
So far I think we've recruited well, but really require a ruckman ( as I feel that Griffiths maybe on borrowed time - pre season or mid season draft)- what would a South Adelaide pre season be like without losing a ruckman..????
Also a key forward. Im told there is a sizeable announcement coming at the end of the week... I will wait with baited breath....

Any ideas how Roberts and Draper slid so low in the draft. I saw them rated top 20 in many pre draft picks.
Good they were picked up but clubs don't rate SA player at top level compared to Vic boys at U18 level.

Not directly answering your question, but would the lockdown in Vic have stifled some of the scouts from coming over and looking at our guys?
They probably had locals making some of these assessments, but maybe not as good as seeing in the flesh.
Just a thought?

Brooksby staying in Melbourne, he's apparently got a job with the AFL.

Seems to be fairly quiet for recruiting news from all clubs.
I thought there might be more following the draft.

Interesting...
nice that he's signed; but has also accepted a development role at Hawthorn- managing their academy... So I guess he's going to commute..? -which is certainly troublesome in todays climate to say the least....
Was always going to sign at South, despite overtures from several other sanfl clubs.

The job of development role obviously does not involve seeing the player play?

Would be fantastic to have a young Kantilla in the South jumper again. I wish I had seen David play as there is very little footage available.

I can vaguely recall seeing David play -i was in short pants at the time. He was 6.5- very tall for that time, and very mobile and a great mark. Some of the oldies around the place say he was a similar player to Natanui these days.

I vaguely remember him as a boy. Was very tall and agile. Did he play any state footy?
I feel a bit for the SA supporters having this type of footage to see their last GF. I suppose i have been gifted with recent wins and GF disappointments. Lets hope SA get to watch a GF GF win in colour soon.

Soapy played at least two state games. He certainly played in the 1964 state game at Adelaide Oval vs Western Australia.

Off topic, it is interesting to see Haydn Bunton junior and Tony Casserly playing for WA

Kym Kantilla played his first reserves game for South Adelaide, last Saturday. A small forward, I believe is the Great grandson of David Kantilla. He performed well and kicked a goal, albeit in a losing team. He looks about 178cm compared to David's 194cm!
