Re: Coaching jobs- Glenelg/North
Dont panic just yet Bayman, there is still plenty of time for the Bays to get the right person, many clubs have jumped in early and got the wrong person over the years....be patient.

Zac Milbank from the SANFL tweeted that Jarrod Cotton will join the Crows as a development coach. Craig McRae rumoured for the Bays job on 5AA this evening, as well...

fwiw, the other day i heard from various people that Rick MacGown had the job if he wanted, he wanted it but the wife didn't want him to take it so it was declined, i get 2 text messages today saying he'll be announced Tomorrow...............so i'm as confused as anyone else........personally i would like Rick to get/take it as i can see him as a premiership coach & would like to see Glenelg as that team

He would be a good appointment, if the Bays have managed to persuade him.
Bit of a job ahead, as I think the Bays list needs a fair upgrade.

i don't think it is as big a job as you think r&b, firstly the new coach (whoever it is) should have the place in a lot better mood than it has been for a year & a half, that obviously is a huge start, the recruiting of 3 or 4 experienced big bodies should be enough, i also think that not having many AFL players playing in the second half of the year has fast tracked some of the young players who with guidance on & off the field will ensure improvement & off course experience will develop them quickly

I agree with that. I think the Bays have hastened the development at league level of many quality young players and that should hold them in better stead than many think.bayman wrote:i don't think it is as big a job as you think r&b, firstly the new coach (whoever it is) should have the place in a lot better mood than it has been for a year & a half, that obviously is a huge start, the recruiting of 3 or 4 experienced big bodies should be enough, i also think that not having many AFL players playing in the second half of the year has fast tracked some of the young players who with guidance on & off the field will ensure improvement & off course experience will develop them quicklyredandblack wrote:He would be a good appointment, if the Bays have managed to persuade him.

Yes, as Bayman says, recruiting 4 experienced players would make a big difference, which is what I was referring to in saying they need an upgrade of their list.
If you listed their top 8 players right now, I don't think they would compare favourably with most of the other teams top 8. I do think they have some promising players coming through, but they need more than that, IMO.

I agree. They badly need a consistent goal kicker good for 40+ a year. Either a big marking forward to take the pressure of Kirkby or a good crumber as Kirkby was double teamed all season and the ball just bounced straight back out. Another big defender and a couple of midfielders with pace and clean skills are also badly needed. The list is a bit one-dimensional at the moment.redandblack wrote:Yes, as Bayman says, recruiting 4 experienced players would make a big difference, which is what I was referring to in saying they need an upgrade of their list.

Fair points. I think with what they have now they will improve on 2013, but to take larger strides and become a contender, you're right they probably need to add a bit of quality and/or size.redandblack wrote:Yes, as Bayman says, recruiting 4 experienced players would make a big difference, which is what I was referring to in saying they need an upgrade of their list.

Glenelg's new coach is not among the names listed over recent days.

They're taking their sweet time about it, so that generally means we could be awaiting a big name to be announced.

Don't think so BP, German has been appointed coach of Coburg. I assume ettg's clue suggests it's Shaun Rehn.Big Phil wrote:I'm guessing it will be Peter German and be annonced today...
