South played a game based on defence and it worked well. They ran harder, had cleaner skills and vastly more intensity. West looked as if they only had to turn up to win and they fumbled and miskicked all day.

If anything, South could and should have won by more.

Think South sent a good message to some of their own members today, was a very good effort and likely one that could not have come at a better time for the club!

Would have been between 1200-1500. Didn't see a lot of south scarfs early but a lot came out after the game unsurprisingly.

Great win. A nice change after a game for me. Very happy and upbeat!

The side really wanted it today. Thought we applied ourselves very well. Tackling, ball skills and defense held up nicely. Overall a full team effort.

Thought at the start of the game West seemed like they thought they had it won....it was nice to give them a rude unexpected shock to their system!

Pleased to have met Red and Black too.

A nice win but a long way to go to gain the respect we need as a club.

I think I put this in the wrong thread originally I'll move it here.
A big warning for Sturt next week. I'm really glad you guys had to meet them today and not us redandblack. How many times have we seen this happen over the years? Maybe Ronny was right after all and they are better off without the 2 guys who walked away.

We smashed the Bays last week and got smacked in the fee kick count by the umpires.

South smacked us today and we again got smacked in the free kick count (13 - 22).

I hasten to add it made no difference to the result, but this trend has been consistent for years now whether we're first to the ball or not.

I think some umpires have made up their mind about us beforehand.

Again, South beat us comfortably today, so no grizzle about the result at all, just perplexed at the consistent deficit.

Perhaps a new topic could be started to discuss the umpiring rather than complaining about it here and removing some gloss from a memorable South victory?

That's a bit tough, Scrunch. If you check both the Match Day thread and this thread, you'll see I've congratulated South on both and said they should have won by more.

I've no interest in making a separate thread about umpires, it was just a passing comment, which I finished by saying South won comfortably.

My comment wasnt intended to have a crack but I will respond to this one. I didn't realise I needed to check another topic for a comment in this one to be assessed. If its ok to reduce this topic by commenting on the umpires in a game that didnt involve South (and a game which did) why would you have no interest in a separate topic? People can say the umpiring had no effect on a result but for them to mention that multiple times would suggest otherwise. South have underperformed and their supporters are to be admired for continually fronting up at games and this forum after a series of demoralising losses. I would have thought they were allowed their moment in the sun without reference to perceived umpire bias which could be discussed elsewhere. Might just be me though.

Yes, Scrunch, it might be just you. Perhaps it might be that you unfailingly give me vastly less latitude than you might give others.

You didn't have to check another topic at all, I just mentioned it in case you hadn't seen it.

I doubt I'm the first person on a football forum to comment on umpires in a game thread?

As for South, regardless of what you might think, I was the first on here to congratulate them on their win and also say they deserved to win by more. Not only that, I also did so on their fans' facebook page, as Ben W would confirm. I have consistently and often posted my admiration for their supporters, on here and in person and I'm sure Southee and his fellow South supporters would agree with that.

Perhaps you should ask yourself if you read my posts with a pre-determined negative bias and whether you apply that standard to all posters?

Im not sure where I said you hadnt given South credit for the win (although again you ask me to check outside of this topic to see all your good work). As I said my comment wasnt intended to have a go at you but if you prefer to somehow try and make this a personal issue then there isnt much I can about that. All I was trying to do was suggest a different place or method to discuss your concerns to not detract from a well earned moment for South fans. Which is what our conversation is now doing so I will leave it at that and apologise for my part in it.

Scrunch, read this thread again and let me know where I have posted anything to really take exception to. If it's only about umpiring, then all of us, not just me, are constantly guilty at some stage, surely?

I am used to some posters bringing their personal biases about me to this site. You have done so politely, so I have no problems with you at all. Some, though, have done so by subjecting me to obscene and juvenile personal attacks because I and others dared to start this site, as we looked for a more respectful and meaningful discussion about footy. Many have and do appreciate having that choice.

There was no need for an apology, but I happily accept it and apologise for my part in it also.

I also apologise to the South supporters for discussing the umpiring.

I hope you will read my posts in future in the good spirit in which they're written.

It is a very hard game to play when you don't have umpires!

Anyway, Well done to South and hopefully it kickstarts there season and reward their loyal supporters with some more success. (regardless of umpire decisions).

Sook. That is all.Laughing
