Round 5: Norwood v West. Thursday 25 April @ Coopers Stadium
Norwood v West
Thursday 25 April
Coopers Stadium
Reserves: 12:10pm
League: 3:10pm
Norwood returned to earth with a thud last week with a shock loss to the Eagles at home, while West scraped over the line with 1 point win over North at City Mazda Stadium. Will Norwood bounce back and account for West, or will West continue their undefeated start to the season?

It seems that Poynton is named in the squad every week, but is still yet to play a senior game. I believe he is the son of former Fitzroy and North Adelaide half forward specialist, Michael Poynton. Michael Poynton was a lightly framed, very talented player who suffered from very bad knees. He scored 14 goals in his first 3 games for North before suffering a debilitating knee injury. He did come back and played in 1986 for North.
I'd de very interested to see if his son, Dean, has inherited his father's skill.

I have a couple of FREE double passes, courtesy of RPH Adelaide, for this ANZAC Day clash tomorrow.
First in best dressed...
If you are interested, send me a PM with your name and I will put them in an envelope and leave them at the ticketing hut, out the front of Coppers Stadium, for you to pick up tomorrow...

No tipping yet I see. OK I'll bite.
I'm thinking West have been very impressive so far.
Maybe last week was more difficult against North, but then Norwood didn't exactly cover themselves in glory either.
Maybe 12 points in it to the Bloods.

This is the biggest test so far for the Bloods this season, with fingers crossed I am going to pick us to win but I do expect Norwood to come out angry after going down last game.

Team selections continue to bewider me, I think if West don't win by 5 goals, they're not trying.

if i didn't know better i'd think Norwood have you playing mind games with Westies & their faithful
where is the Norwood named team ?
i'll then make a judgement after i get back from indoor cricket as who i think will win
would anyone know the % of the reigning premier winning on ANZAC DAY ?

I think there's been 45 GF replays on Anzac Day, I think the tally stands at 23-22. That's just a quick count.
In the past 10 matches, the previous season's premier has only won 4 times.

If you were coach, AH, what changes would have you made?

I'd prefer to answer that after the game as the final 21 hasn't been announced as yet.

Well Craig Evans is definitely making his debut for the Redlegs. One of his team mates and close friends accounced it on Facebook. Respect that decision, mate.
I think Norwood might just get up in this one, regardless of the side they pick.

i think this will go down to the wire but i'll tip Norwood only because it is at the parade & the small ground will suit them better, Norwood by 2 points, with Warren to kick the winning goal deep in time on of the last term

Actually, that's a fallacy. For the past few years, Norwood have played their better football on the bigger grounds.

About as interesting a game as last years grand final, we just won by more last time around.
I see that Sam Baulderstone was awesome with 49 hit-outs, 9 marks and 5 kicks, just shaded in my book for the 3 points by Matty Suckling with 46 possessions.
Apparently we have unraveled another teenage star in young Trent Dumont, 20 possessions in his first game well done lad. I was told to watch out for him by Mark Ross 18 months ago, good judgment shown there as well.
So will there be a meeting of Collo and Bass at the report commission this week, appears words were expressed at half time and more of a hustle in the exit from the ground. Happened in Festers pocket, hope to get a live cross from Fester on the action at the ground, might have to wait a while though he tends to get excited and joins in these altercations!!!
Does this mean there will be no more day games at Norwood between Norwood and the Blood & Tars

I didn't care much for what I witnessed at half time. R&B was right there so he will give us a better idea of what happened. Collins appeared to have a word or two to some of our players, that's okay, no problem with that.
However, Bassett put his oar in, ran up to Collins. Had he just said a couple of words, it would have been oaky, but he appeared to give Collins a shove, which wasn't very smart. I thought Collins was within his rights to shove Bassett back.
There appeared to be an aftermath in the player race but it was hard to tell from where I was. I thought the whole thing was handled very poorly by our coach. Bassett apologised to Collins when the coaches came out after half time, and rightly so.
Up to half time, Norwood had taken the same insipid game style as previous weeks to the table and West were clearly the superior team and went in with a 2 goal advantage. I thought my prediction of West by 5 goals was on the money.
I don't know if Bassett used the half time incident to spur the players but they came out with a new intensity, one I haven't seen since 2012, the tackling was ferocious, and the style of play much longer and straighter.
I was delighted with the second half, and hope we play much more like that than the crap we've had to endure in the past few weeks.

Re: Round 5: Norwood v West. Thursday 25 April @ Coopers Stadium
on the half time incident, i saw it & had a little giggle as i wondered whether it was staged given the history of the pair, Coach Basset was asked by Big Phil on air & he(Basset) said ''Andy was talking to my players so i had a go back, it was all in fun'' pre match both men shook hands with the umpires & each other as they were watching the end of the reserves match......mind you redandblack was right behind the pair so he'll give an honest summary of what was said etc
as for the match well firstly when i worked out Ferguson wasn't playing (still dressed as they ran out to warm up at lemon time of the reserves) i thought the game swung into the balance of Norwood when i found out (via 5rph) thanks guys, so i rang up & backed Norwood as i couldn't see how West could win
West threw everything at Norwood & were slick skillful & direct & had Norwood guessing, making mistakes etc, i thought Norwood started to control much of the second term without putting it on the board & West responded when Norwood finally hit the lead, after half time Norwood well & truly got on top & if it wasn't for a persistent West who tried to claw themselves back into the game they would have been slaughtered, obviously both teams will be in the finals & i think both Ferguson & Schmidt would be worth 6 goals which could have been the difference today, so perhaps it could be Westies year with a bit of luck
enjoyed the game, i thought Tippet was outstanding as was Bricknell in the first half & agreed that Suckling was a worthy winner of the Bob Quinn Medal
