It's all about life choices mate, not every one makes the right one every time.

Port get our man, welcome aboard Paddy Ryder!
Awesome, I'm quite literally stoked by this get and can't wait for 2015 to kick off.
Carn the pear!

Re: Port Adelaide
Ryder gives the Power some very valuable flexibility particularly in the forward line.
It gives some respite to Schulz and allows Westhoff even greater licence to roam forward or back.
It will be interesting to see how much he is used in ruck compared to a key position.
And the Power haven't had to lose anything they already have to get him.

Schulz will be inside the F50 while Ryder and Westhoff roam around the 50m arc and up to the wing, rolling back behind Schulz as they see fit.
Trengove stays inside D50 and will have the added bonus of either Westhoff or Ryder helping out from time to time.
Westhoff starts on the wing at 6'10". Ryder goes into the ruck while Lobbe takes a breather and perhaps drops inside the F50 to get the blood pumping again.
Seems to be a pretty good pick up.

No Rosewater U10's team was ever as organised, well drilled or as disciplined as mine.....

Re: Port Adelaide
Interesting that Ben Newton has declined a contract offer from Port Adelaide and decided to enter himself into the National Draft.
Little dismayed by the move, to be honest, he finally broke into our strong midfield unit early in the year and was, IMO, right alongside Aaron Young,Kane Mitchell and Andrew Moore for the final spot in our midfield. If he could have added some disposal efficiency to his game he would, IMO, get some time ahead of those others as he is more an inside than outside mid. We have plenty of outside runners and although we have Wines, Ebert and Boak you can never have too many ball winners in your side.
To leave the club outside of the trade period and see Port receive nothing as compensation is a little odd. If he had intentions to take up an offer elsewhere ( perhaps a Melbourne based club offered him more promise of game time ) then I am sure Port would have done what it could have to make a trade suitable for all parties.
I think the club has every right to simply cut ties with him now and bon voyage, matey.

Without being a smart **** ( someone has to rise above that level ) Adelaide could do a lot worse than seek out what Newtons wishes are.
He knows how to win the ball, he's gutsy and plays very much team football. Walsh / team.

Absolutely. In fact maybe they already have, hence his current course of action.
You'd think someone has to have given him a verbal guarantee of something to prompt him walking out of a club most would suggest will be giving things a shake in the next few years.

I'm reading Robbie Gray is about to sign a contract extension until the end of 2018.
Great news for Robbie, and the PAFC.

It really is surprising, so I think there's probably more to this than we think.
Ben had a slow start in SA due to injury, but his SANFL form this year was excellent. He's a quality lad, so I'd like to know the full story.

Re: Port Adelaide
Fair to say he would not have had to be told his opportunities at AFL level will be limited. Only on the back of two / three injuries will he be seen as a selection option, with Kane Mitchell being elevated to the senior list it makes it more difficult for Newton again.
I guess he had the option to stick around, work hard and earn his spot in the AFL side ( which, I might add, I believe he has the ability to do ) or look for opportunities elsewhere.
I understand that he has taken the chance to seek more game time, but why not do it via the trade period to 1 - get where he wants to be, 2 - get Port something as compensation.

Has he applied for the national draft, or just the PSD? If it's the former, then I agree Booney, trade would have made more sense from the players perspective I would have thought.

Must be more the story to take such an unorthodox action.
Obviously got told something he didn't want to hear, or found himself on the outer for some reason.

Newton has ended up at Melbourne as a delisted free agent apparently. Not sure how that works, I thought he walked out on Port rather than being delisted.

Re: Port Adelaide
JACKSON Trengove will undergo surgery this week after injuring his shoulder during a marking contest at training.
Although it's a disappointing setback for the key backman, he should return to the running track within 10 days according to Port Adelaide's head of high performance Darren Burgess.
The 24-year-old, positioned to play his 100th game early this season, will aim to be fully fit for Round 1, given his strong history of injury rehabilitation.
He missed just four games after ankle sugery midway through 2014.
“We expect Jackson should be able to maintain his fitness, to a large degree, as he’ll be able to do most of the team running over the pre-season,” Burgess told portadelaidefc.com.au.
“He does have very good recuperative powers and he does everything right in terms of his rehab so we’re hopeful of a speedy recovery."
Port Adelaide's pre-season got underway at the beginning of January and will culiminate with the NAB Challenge in March.
It's first public internal trial will take place on Friday 27 February at Alberton Oval.

Really? I hope not....
*Edit*
He is expected to be back running within 10-12 days and the first game is April 5, 11 weeks away.
Should be right then for round 1.
