Here's the spot for any examples of excruciating or excellent Olympic commentary.

Just watched the rowing fours.
The commentary was all about how the Australian crew would blitz the GB crew.
Australia led and the commentary was all about how they would walk it in. They got a good lead, but the GB crew started coming back. Ah, no worries, the're waiting until the 300 metre mark and then they'll kick away.
GB won by about a canvas.
Ah, they're just cruising, said the commentators. "if that's all the Brits have got, they're in strife".
Well, it was just the semi-final and the Australians did look comfortable, but when will these jingoistic Channel 9 commentators give a decent summary and a realistic one.
You'd think they would have learnt by now.

Well said R&B, James Brawshaw should stick to football, it is great to be patriotic but the way they carry on is painful.

Agree, testy.
I just watched the mens fours. Australia rowed really well and finished 4th, not beaten by much and they looked a chance all the way.
We were told twenty times by Brayshaw that their lane (6) was 'protected' against the wind.
Lane 5 won.
Rowing's the sort of race where the viewer can often see what might happen in the last 500.
Pity the commentators can't see what's happening, preferring instead to carry on as if we can't see what's happening.
And what's the point odf screaming that the Australian boys have got to lift when there's 50 metres to go and they're dropping out.

Yeah saw those races as well. Didn't even realise South Africa were out there until about 5 metres from the line.

Channel 9's continual replaying various interviews over and over again is as boring as bat shite, I am now turning the tv over to something else while this happens and it is only half way through the games.
I have the upmost admiration of all our participants in all the sports played at the games. I only wish I was blessed to have a portion of there tallent.

From my earlier post.
"Ah, they're just cruising, said the commentators. "if that's all the Brits have got, they're in strife"."
Needless to say, they won the Gold Medal
Oh, did James Brayshaw tell anyone that lane 6 is 'protected'?

Not so much the commentary but studio hosting and once again the lovely Sarah Jones (who is usually pretty good) but last night she said "cockless four" yes she did.....
Re: Commentary great and poor
The long jump silver medallist, Mitchell Watt, gave the media a huge serve for their reporting.
Rightly so, many of them are just not very bright, jingoistic hacks.

Brayshaw still at it.
Why can't he just say the Australian sculler has dropped out and won't qualify, instead of "he needs to lift now to get in the top 4", or when lengths back with 10 metres to go, "he's going to need to do something miraculous now".

What a refreshing change to listen to the hockey commentary, given by someone who knows the sport, knows what he's talking about and doesn't swamp the vision with jingoistic bullshit.
