Channel 9 commentary Empty Channel 9 commentary

Post by firstblood on Mon Jan 19, 2015 10:01 am

Not sure if i heard this correctly but i was watching the Aust v India one day game yesterday, and a batsman scored a run via leg bye with the last ball of an over... James Brayshaw commented before going to an add break that the leg bye will run down to the fielder for a behind.
I was either hearing things incorrectly or Brayshaw has cricket and football mixed up. Very Happy

Probably! Wouldn't surprise me.

I have to say while I love a bit of banter as much as the next bloke, they really have overdone it this year. Both Channel 9 and the Channel 10 big bash coverage have really dribbled some **** this summer.

He sure did say that and I'm glad you raised this topic.

I think the Channel 9 commentary has been at an all time low this summer.

The worst of the lot :

Ian Chappell : "When I was playing....", "If someone said that to me, when I was playing...". Chappelli has been terrible. One Indian field set-up prompted him to say "When I was playing if the captain set that field for me when I was bowling I would have thrown him the ball and said "You bowl it then". No you wouldn't have, Chappelli.

James Brayshaw : He tries ever so hard to fit in with the blokes who managed to play International cricket. Little anecdotes about facing Joe Angel at the WACA or Wayne Holdsworth at the SCG are hardly entertaining Jim.

Ian Healy and Michael Slater together : Uurrgh.

The best :

Warnie - I didn't think it would be possible for Warnie to entertain and analyse in the one sentence, but gee, he does. He's been a breath of fresh air into the stale commentary box.

Michael Clarke - I'd imagine he has signed a contract for life with Channel 9 upon his guest stint in the box while out injured.

In order Chappelli, Brayshaw, Healy and Slater drive me nuts.

Warne and Clarke outstanding.

The cross untimely cross promotion of other Channel 9 shows / series? Don't get me started.

I just wish some of these ex players who represented AUSTRALIA would stop pronouncing it as AUSTRAYA, and Warnie is the culprit I am referring to.

The last couple of years we have seen the changing of the guard in relation to the cricket commentators with the sad death of Tony Gregg, the decline of Richie Benaud's health and the same with Bill Lawrie there has been an influx of new callers and I think we have been spoiled with the great ones of the past.

No chance. He's set for a long, long career in front of the Ch 9 cameras. Remember when Mark Taylor was ushered in alongside Richie in the mid-00's? He was auditioned but was never set to be the new anchor, Nicholas has that gig now for as long as he wants.

Actually, probably until Michael Clarke takes it from him.

I reckon Mark Waugh would be a good commentator if he was allowed to just talk about the game.
