They have also signed Alastair Lord & Mitch O’Niell from South, they’ve lost a player to West but I can’t remember his name

And great that former and current Norwood number 10 players went and visited him on his birthday to present a framed jumper.

That's a fantastic gesture, I love that clubs do that.

It is of paramount imPORTance that Norwood concentrate on winning premierships ASAP to avert a BIG threat.
East Fremantle in beating Peel Thunder in the 2023 WAFL Grand Final registered its 30th premiership , Norwood have 31 at present
They are both chasing the 36 premierships that the Port Adelaide SANFL team accrued

Well given that Port is dead and buried as an sanfl club, that premiership record will be taken over by both clubs at some stage this century

So you believe that Norwood's pre 1897 flags should count. There has always been a school of thought that they shouldn't and in fact they didn't for much of the 20th century. I am unsure as to whether they should count.Scrappy wrote:Interesting to note that after EF won the 1998 WAFL Grand Final

They definitely should count. What changed? Players had to live in the zone of their club, West Adelaide became the 6th team, Natives changed name to West Torrens. A premiership is a premiership unless one of these AFL Reserves teams win one. That’s the time to bring out the asterix.

Off course they should count, the sanfl as it’s called now has evolved…continues to do so…
do we start from year dot ?
Or in 1897 ?
or maybe 1921 with Glenelgs’ first season of league football ?
perhaps after ww11 after the joint teams finished ?
Maybe from 1964 with the introduction of Woodville and Central District.
Indeed from 1991 with the addition of afl franchise teams located in Adelaide?
Or do we start from 2014 as that’s when the present incarnation of the SANFL started ?
No, you start from year dot regardless of anything as that’s the way it was

I think I know your answer, but given your argument shouldn't Port have 2 more flags and Torrens one which they won during the first World War in the Patriotic League?

Re: All things Norwood in 2024
Norwood must have too much money!!
Norwood have had a few players take their hand to training pacers and among them Pat Hall, Rodney Seekcamp and Bryce Campbell, Bryce still training and driving successfully, Michael Cavallaro who played one game in their premiership season before being derailed by injury is the son of trainer-driver Paul who could end up as the father in law to a well known afl player in Jason Horne-Francis who is seen often at the track with his girlfriend Izzy, I must say he gets negative press but he’s very obliging to the kids who want selfies and autographs

Norwood have a very good defence and can keep most teams to under 7 or 8 goals but we have a serious problem scoring. In every other game this weekend the losing team scored more than our winning score.
If we dont make an improvement we will be making up the numbers.

My only query there is between 1876 and 1897 only goals counted, behinds didn't count. Also different clubs played different numbers of games, there wasn't always an organised roster of games and only in one year were there finals.
Some notable historians have always thought that records should start from 1897 when electorate football was introduced on a voluntary basis and then became mandatory in 1899. 1897 was when the competition was organised as we now know it.
The one date that should never be used is the date that was often referred to in the old days.1907. That is simply when the name of the competition was changed. It was exactly the same competition.

In addition to a great defence Norwood has easily the best ruckman in the competition. Boyd dominates. It will be interesting to see how Norwood perform against the Eagles who have a rejuvenated (and 15 kilos lighter) Redden as their ruckman and do have some outstanding forwards including the very promising Weckert,
Norwood's defence kept the excellent Glenelg forwards under control but that was on the back of another dominant display by Boyd. MCGree of course was out for Glenelg.
