Re: Digital Pass
Liam McBean did special comments on the WA v WWT game and was very impressive with his knowledge of other footballers.

Yeah, I've been pushing to get Liam involved for a couple of seasons now as he is an interesting person, a very deep thinker and great analyser of the game.Flag No.10 wrote:Liam McBean did special comments on the WA v WWT game and was very impressive with his knowledge of other footballers.
Glad he finally got on board and hope that I get to call a game with him by seasons' end.

Re: Digital Pass
Yeah he seems to have a good feel for what the teams are trying to do structurally, and was very diplomatic about some very ordinary passages by Westies.

Are there any Digital Pass callers you think do a good job?

Re: Digital Pass
I think they ALL are good
Two of the most difficult things are to call a horse race and call a football game
I know just how hard it is to call races- to memorize colors and names, and race callers are amazing
The degree of difficulty in calling football games is also a very very tough gig
I used to go to football games as a high school student and imagined I was calling a SANFL match
I was next to useless, despite knowing almost all footballers by sight
Its even harder now with some many ins and outs in the SANFL on a yearly basis
Personally I could never make the grade as a footy commentator
Next time anyone goes to an SANFL match, try a pretend call and see just how damn hard it is
The 4 that I admire most are
Chris Kendall
Big Phil
Peter Argent
Doug Robertson
To the SANFL digital crews , keep up the good service

Like most I want to hear a good voice commentating without the copied theatrics. Not many I know on DP.

Re: Digital Pass
Apropos of nothing particular, I wonder why some people are so constantly aggressively negative?
As fopr the Digital Pass, it's a totally user-unfriendly app, but once in, tjhe product is good and most of the callers are also good. It's clear that the callers who love the SANFL, such as CK and Big Phil, are the better commentators.
I've been impressed with one or two comments people also.

Well last night i watched the replay of the Norwood v Glenelg match to verify what i thought i saw in how the game swung & i was also interested in listening to the commentary because of the complaints i've kept reading about..... i don't know who they were except one was a current player given at one stage he said ''when we played them'' but i thought it was good & wasn't worthy of any criticism at all

Re: Digital Pass
I accidentally watched QAFLW on NITV last weekend .
Yeah I know footy standard wasn’t great
The SANFL digital pass might need to look into how the QAFLW filming of a night game leaves the sanfl digital pass for dead
I’m not saying better or worse commentary
The actual filming was far superior to the digital pass now I’m not sure if Bond University pays big bucks to sponsor it . Film quality at night leaves the digital pass quality in its wake .

Health issues have caused me to use the pass
Otherwise I’d go everywhere
Stay healthy blacky seeing back in February I was dragging my left leg around to walk my choice miss every game or get the pass again
Thankfully I’ve gone from dragging leg to walking stick to almost back to normal still need an operation but I’ve been told by SA Health won’t happen

Sam Tugwell (FiveAA) and Jarrod Lienert (current Port Power player) were the commentators.

thanks BP & pardon my ignorance but i've never heard of Sam Tugwell, it's okay though because he's never heard of me either both men were very good, clear & concise in the commentary box & anyone that thinks differently would be very hard to please & even if they had Bruce ''Flasher'' McAvaney in the commentary box they'd probably complain too
well done to Sam & Jarrod
btw not sure which person said it but at half time one of them said paraphrasing ''the bays aren't totally out of this'' i doubt even Nostradamus could have envisaged that one at that stage

Re: Digital Pass
I recall a game at the Bay about 10-12 years ago, when there was 11,000 people there and the Blues were about 45 points up at 3/4 time........we lost!
I didn't know what I was seeing in that last qtr. Literally, the Bays were playing against witches hats.
You must have been there Bayman....one of your better days at the footy I expect? Not so for me.
So inexplicable swings happen from time to time.

R1
2/4/2011
Bayman Oval
GL 2-1...4-8...4-12...14-19 [103]
ST 1-5...6-7...11-11..12-12 [84]
GL finished 4th in the minor round, ST finished 9th
The following facts happened
I watched this amazing game on TV
Bayman was at the ground
Sturt actually extended the 3/4 time differential by scoring the first goal in the last qtr

Re: Digital Pass
I would love to know (and bottle) what clicked into place for the Tiges after about the 5 minute mark of the final term.
Cannot recall what the catalyst was. Not sure if it was a delayed 3/4 time verbal spray, or some strange potion in the trainers water bottles or something else, but every coach would want to have it ready in their back pocket.
It pains me to say, but the Blues just left their guernseys out there propped up on sticks and hit the showers early before the hot water ran out.
Maybe it was an early season defining moment for Sturt.
