Perhaps Hilton can't read--The area is clearly marked not to stand there, one in every crowd

Side issue, but, my past experience with AdNow (at least in the pre "sign in" days) is that of inconsistency with what gets through in terms of pretty obvious trolling, and what gets bounced as serious rebuttal.Scrunch wrote:redandblack wrote:I see in the comments that'Hilton' has his 100th crack at the BBQ. Hard to believe someone can carry a grudge, over something so trivial, for so long.
I wish Adelaidenow would stop posting his comments.
I think the consensus has been, for a long time, that the Richmond barbecue speaks for itself.
Grain of salt time.

Well from almost 700 kms away the oval looks fantastic on fox. I never minded going to Richmond to watch footy- always found West supporters fairly good humoured.

Richmond Oval looks fantastic today. Don't suppose the video screen is a permanent fixture

Yeah couldnt make it to Richmond today..I was busy hitting my thumb with a hammer for 3 hours...
just wondering did they have tarpaulins covering 1/3 of the outer, and did the video screen alert Crows supporters when to applaud......?

A new video screen will be installed before the SANFL season starts.
Had to laugh at some Crows and Power supporters whinging how they couldn't get a seat in the grandstand. Quite a few seem to have forgotten or never knew what suburban footy is like... stand, sit on the concrete or bring your own chairs, obviously some one didn't warn them. But in general, most were very complimentary.
Overall, a great crowd but the game was a bit of a let down, closer scores would have added to the atmosphere which was lacking a bit.

That's interesting. During the AA call one of them noted "Spoke to John Olsen at half-time, he said there is 12,500 in here".
Now, little John boy wouldn't lie now, would he?

Looked almost double the crowd than the west v north game a few years ago ( the first game under lights) so surprised when I heard the crowd was under 9000.

I heard at one stage just before the game started, that they were considering shutting the gates due to the large crowd...they were pouring in of Milner Rd just before the game and up until 1/4 time, iv'e never seen it like that. There were more than 9,000 there with out a doubt, closer to 12,000 is my estimate. But the SANFL counted them so the crowd must have been under 9,000.BloodnTars wrote:Looked almost double the crowd than the west v north game a few years ago ( the first game under lights) so surprised when I heard the crowd was under 9000.

Yes, I agree. Most of us who are at Richmond can estimate the crowd pretty well. There were a lot more than that there. As Bloodntars said, if there were 6,500 at that North game, there would have been at least 10 to 12 thousand there.
The oval looked magnificent, it's a great ground.

Maybe they forgot to add the people that came through the Southern gate?

Did the BBQ cope?
probably cooked more souvlaki sticks than a taverna this side of Athens.

Hopefully Westies didn't tell the AFL about them.
3,000 extra at $18 = $54,000 into the coffers

One thing I noticed pre-game on the TV was alot of people sitting on the terraces. Not sure if they stayed seated during the game but if they did, that may have been why the crowd looked bigger than it actually was.

I heard some members of the Crows Supporters Group didn't go because they had to bring their own chair!

Re: Richmond Oval Additions
There are some who are annoyed at West getting this game (not on TFSA). I believe the AFL won't play games at any ground with a cricket pitch (or a baseball diamond) for a start.
This only leaves Richmond, Noarlunga and Elizabeth. I also believe Foxtel don't want the cost and travel involved with a country game. Talking to a Foxtel person at the game I was told it was a no-brainer for them due to Richmond's closeness to the city and airport.
I've appreciated the view of the vast majority of fans of other clubs who have wished a financially struggling West Adelaide well. Thanks to those people and I think Richmond Oval was a good advertisement for SANFL footy.

It really was a no brainer for Richmond oval to get this match.
My only concern was the catering, there are not too many clubs that could look after the needs of 10,000 or more patrons, Westies did it pretty well.
A different club will reap the rewards next season, time to settle petals.

What i was told.... there were that many people backing back to Milner Rd when the game started, the officials on the gate stopped scanning tickets to get the crowd in quicker... that's why the official attendance announced was lower than it should have been.

Could Thebarton be in the mix for future NAB Challenge matches as well? It's hosted a non-televised NAB Challenge match in the past, and has the closeness between the City/Airport attraction that Richmond also offers.
As for the country games, I guess Fox do enough of them on the east coast (Wangaratta, Alice Springs, Townsville, Wagga Wagga) without needing to travel out to rural SA/WA when there's perfectly good SANFL/WAFL grounds available.
Also, this may be a dumb question, and I may have missed this, but does City Mazda no longer hold the naming rights to the ground, or did the AFL stipulate that the ground name have to revert to Richmond Oval for this game?
