West get a bit of a bonus with the Crows v Port game on in a couple of weeks.

The new goalposts are in and very much higher than the old ones, although (for the time being) the behind posts are white.

Now theu/re constructing new areas for the benches, which seem to be upgraded to accommodate a cast of thousands, adding to the old concrete boxes.

I think the coaching boxes might be getting air-conditioning, too. Not 100% sure on that.

It's all very welcome, bt I can't help think the AFL are a bit precious with all of this for one game.

The surface has also been worked on and looks perfect.

With Supergoals still in use for the NAB Challenge, how will they fit the Supergoals on the current scoreboard?

Will the new scoreboard be electronic as well, or back to a manual scoreboard.

given the 'super goals' perhaps the scoreboard will just give a total.......however Richmond oval is the place of 3 scoreboards

State game last year and now an AFL game. Westies must have good connections within the SANFL.

I think it's more to do with the surface Scrunch, I'm told they rate it quite highly. Maybe the dimensions suit them too.

I do agree that the dimensions and particularly surface would certainly be among the most suitable, but it's a handy leg up over other clubs.

They're also hoping to attract some of the massive West Adelaide support base.

Much has been read and said about Unley and its ongoing saga with the Council.

To the Westies devotees, how would you rate your relationship with West Torrens Council?

Have they been helpful and supportive of the developments at Richmond over the last 5 years or so?

There have been a number of things occur like;
- lights
- the bar deck thingy
- electronic scoreboard
- grandstand works (although that may have been insurance - not sure)

What else?

Chambo, I think our relationship has been absolutely wonderful.

The Mayor, John Trainer, is also the Club Patron and is a frequent attender at games and functions. His help to us has been outstanding.

George Dimitriou and other Council members are also strong supporters.

Our good relations go back (I think) to the late Steve Hamra, who was a Council Mayor for ages and our Medal is named after him.

His son, Steve Hamra Jnr is also a loyal and Committed West supporter.

Sounds a bit different to Sturt, unfortunately.

I don't know the specifics of assistance with the ground, but I'm sure they've contributed and have been totally supportive.

Whilst I cant speak for West Adelaide FC, but my observation has been that the Murray Bridge Council have been nothing but supportive of Riverview Speedway in terms of assistance and use of council equipment and so forth. The clubs facilities and the track have been upgraded by continious work from the volunteers there with the help of a supportive local council.

The thing is though, if you arrive in Murray Bridge early for the Speedway meeting, its interesting to see the sheer flow of cars coming both off the freeway and from Mannum into Murray Bridge, all the hotel rooms are taken and it brings a massive amount of $$$ into the local community.

I think this is an opportunity for an SANFL club to look at how they make a case that they benefit the community and are a good group for local councils to partner with. I am not sure where they stand now, but not that long ago West were working with children that had newly arrived into Australia and getting them into Australian Rules football and being a good step into being embraced into the local community. With the local council on board with a program like that, everyone wins.

What's wrong with the BBQ.
One of the highlights when we visit Richmond.

........well it is now that we don't win there very often.

But I rate the BBQ.

He's a Norwood supporter (calls himself Hilton) who got told to move away from the no standing zone in front of the BBQ area (clearly marked) by one of the staff and didn't like being told to move on. Since then he's had a swipe at West's BBQ at every opportunity.

Hard to believe someone can carry a grudge, over something so trivial, for so long.

I wish Adelaidenow would stop posting his comments.
