Weslo security staff at AAMI
Talking to a photographer after the Foxtel game West v Claremont, he claims one of Weslo security staff threatened him with violence if he didn't stop taking photos with his camera. From what i gather, the photographer was taking pics close to the West Adelaide race (not on the field) and the Weslo guy said .... ' i think youv'e taken enough photo's and if you don't stop now, i'l drop you on the spot '.
Now this photographer wasn't using a flash or anything, wasn't being annoying...just one of the crowd. Myself and a few other staff also had problems with the same guy. As an official, i sat in with the crowd as there's not enough room on the bench for all the staff, this guy refused to let us through the small gate to get access to the race at 1/2 time as i need to be in the rooms at 1/2 time. If it wasn't for another SANFL official over riding this Weslo dude, no staff would have made it down into the change rooms. He was an older gent, with grey hair, a real nasty piece of work IMO.
Last i heard was a report going in against Weslo security.

I reckon the SMA would do the security in-house at Adelaide Oval. How that would work for the suburban SANFL grounds I don't know.

Though I suspect that they will employ the same people, just give them a new uniform.

Exactly. If you're prepared to work under those conditions for that amount of pay ( ie weekends dealing with drunk know-it-alls ) then you'll wear any uniform you get told to.
There is a chap in the factory here who works for Weslo at various locations. Trust me, you would have to want the money real, real bad to do the job.

If the inference we draw from this is that Weslo do not pay people appropriately for what it is that they are being asked to do, then I have no sympathy.
This is a lucrative commercial contract and if you "buy" it and flow that outlook on through the business into staff entitlements, then you are setting yourself up for failure.
If the pay is the reason they cannot attract the right people or able to properly train them to do the job, then more to their disadvantage.
I would propose that dealing with drunk no it alls, is not the biggest part of their job, maybe just what they perceive it to be. So if they approach all patrons as if they are going to be drunk-no-it-alls, then they won't go far.
And maybe that is where they are at right now. Too many times, they have gone the heavy route, when it has not been called for and it has bounced back to put egg on Weslo's face.
Sorry but no sympathy for Weslo coming from me.

I think the right action has been taken, if there is an obvious problem, people should take note of the person involved, photograph them with your camera on your phone and make a formal complaint to the club. I suspect that like many security firms 90% of them are good people and the 10% of idiots ruin it for the rest of them and I suspect their colleges would not mind if they were shown the door either, its one thing to be harassed by them at the football, another to have to work with the same moron each week!

I think standard rate is about $22/hour. Going up to $28 at night and around $40/hour on public holidays (I will confirm these figures). Would you do it for that money? Not me.
I appreciate drunk know it alls aren't that often encountered at SANFL games, but you understand crowd control isn't all that glamorous.
