500+ matches for only one draw
The following five instances by a team to draw just once in them are:
725 matches - North between Round 5 1937 and Round 9 1977 had just one draw - an 8.17 to 9.11 result with West Torrens at Prospect in Round 11 1963. That broke a 423 game drawless sequence.
682 matches - South between Round 11 1928 and Round 17 1968 - only draw was against West Torrens in Round 9 1958, 7.19 to 9.7 at Thebarton.
551 matches - North between Round 12 1963 and Round 8 1988: The Round 10 1977 draw with Central became another 500+ game sequence with just one draw after Round 5 1986. North would draw for only the third time in 51 years in Round 9 1988 against Central. Incredibly this was exactly 11 years after their 1977 draw - 4th June for each match!
541 matches - Port between Round 6 1941 and Round 19 1970 - only draw in this period was against West Torrens; Round 7 1957, 10.19 to 12.7 at Thebarton.
500 matches - West between Round 6 1941 and Round 20 1969 - they drew with Port in Round 5 1941, which commenced a long stretch with only one draw in it for both sides. Wests only draw until the 1969 1st Semi Final was in Round 4 1956 with West Torrens, 8.14 to 7.20 at Thebarton.
The longest a team has gone without a draw was the 423 matches by North as noted above. Their previous 500 matches had 13 draws in them, a record for the most in such a time. In fact, all of those draws occurred within 448 matches, the first being in Round 7 1905 against South.
For all of the references to West Torrens above, none of those were in the sequence of 12 draws in 411 matches - the best the club could get so far as draws were concerned. This happened between Round 13 1900 and Round 9 1932.
