Honestly, Collins would be the short-priced favourite to have his contract terminated. This is now Year 5 into a initial 3-year plan. IMO it would be Grand Final or bust.

Although its very early stages, Port look to have stepped up again and I do think they are a very good chance to make and perform well in the finals!

A good start to the season then is most important if Collins is prime target #1.
Rekindling the early form from 2011 would be the priority.
The Bloods smashing of the Blues under lights at Richmond last season was as good a footy as you will see in this comp in terms of ball movement up the ground.
So they can do it if injuries remain in check.

Thanks Chambo, you've nailed West's situation well.
If we have our best team, or near it, we attack as well as anyone.
If we don't, the game is played in our opponent's forward lines.
Depth was the problem last year, we need to fix that.

Re: Trial Games Results/Updates
From the outside looking in, and just from the my view of the matches, West looks to have the talent to push hard for a finals berth and also look to have the goalscoring power to do so.
What surprises me about them, is, particularly after about round nine last year, a propensity to play slow, reactive and sideways football when coming from defence, which
a) Gives the opposition ample time to drop numbers back into West's attack and
b) Makes for too crowded a forward 50 to utilise the likes of Brad Fisher and Ryan Willits as effectively.
If that is to work as a game plan, then West really need quick small forwards at the feet of the aforementioned players to be able to convert crumbing opportunities, but outside of Fortunato Caruso, that area looks a bit thin for West at times.
They also look somewhat slow around the ground for leg speed. Players like Chris Schmidt, for one, have no trouble winning possession but then have trouble in getting the breakaway into space to capitalise on possession. There are a few players that are similar in that respect, and that makes for an easier job for opposition coaches to matchup on and exploit the pace side by having hard running defenders zoning off from the back half. The Eagles, for one, were very adept at exploiting this last year against West.
Talent isn't an issue at West, but the ability to stick to game plans does appear to be a major issue.

Re: Trial Games Results/Updates
That's a fair assessment Chambo, but I'd be gob-smacked if we reappoint Collins if this season turns out to be very similar to last. Whilst it matters somewhat how you start a season, it's your final position that counts.
I remember the year Richmond won their first 8-9 games and everyone suddenly dreamt that a Tigers' AFL flag would happen. Well, sorry to say, they didn't even make the finals!
If you want to talk about depth, we're missing out on some key signings each pre-season, he would have to be a part of that problem.
I want us to attack, NO MATTER WHO IS ON THE FIELD. Flooding your reserve players because you feel you have no other option or that's the only way they'll cope, tells me that the club does not instil a lot of confidence in our fringe players, which is very poor coaching IMO. The writing is on the wall for Collins. I have nothing against him as a person - I have met him and think he is terrific - but if he can't get my team playing competitively and consistently, I'll be the first person to lead a charge for change.

RESERVES
North 3-0 6-6 9-12 12-14 86
Sturt 7-3 10-3 14-7 16-9 105
Sturt leapt out of the blocks and kicked almost half their score in the first quarter. North just played catch up after that.
Goals for North: Pollock 3-5, Connors 2-2, Hayes 2-1, Teasdale 1-1, Virgin 1-1, McMahon 1-0, Butcher 1-0, De Leonardis 1-0,Coulter 0-2, rushed 0-2.
Better players for North: Teasdale, Cumming, Shephard, Makins, Virgin, Spina, Coulter.
LEAGUE
North 6-3 8-10 15-14 18-18 126
Sturt 2-1 7-5 10-9 18-10 118
Apologies for a 1 sided view, but I was principally looking at North’s prospects. With 5 AFL inclusions (Johnston, Blee, Craig, Young and Moore), the side looked stronger and with new ruckman, Currie, playing his first game, it would be interesting to see how they melded, considering the 3 chief possession getters in Allan, Bennett and Backwell were still out.
North started well with a good first quarter, with Johnston, Blee and Moore down back, and focal points with Boras and Alleway in the forward lines. Both took strong marks and during the game Boras took at least 10 marks inside 50. Sturt seemed to struggle up forward with Duldig well held by Hall. I believe Duldig (North’s bogey man last year) had only 1 kick (snapped goal) and 2 handballs, all in the last quarter.
North’s runners were on top and cleared the stoppages more than Sturt. Both teams rotated about 24 players off the bench, so all results are interpreted at your own risk.
North could have sown up a big win in the second quarter but wasted opportunities by kicking 2-7. Currie was getting his hand to the ball and also marking up forward, taking one centimetres from the ground. He played only a half. Johnston and Moore were cleaning up in defence. Later Johnston moved up forward as Francou tried players in different positions. Ryswyk, Thring, Thiele, Clinch, Armstrong and Amato provided plenty of run, while Gallman and the aforementioned players cleared from defence. Handby, Hill and Delvins provided some hardness around the packs.
Sturt got a lot of their goals in the latter parts of the quarters and finished off with an 8 goal last quarter, assisted by some questionable umpiring and frees, and it’s going to be a long frustrating year for players and spectators if what I’ve seen in the last 2 weeks continues.
Francou would have been much happier with North’s application and competitiveness, which was missing last week.

Better players (in budget order): Hall, Handby, Delvins, Thring, Johnston, Ryswyk, Gallman, Young, Moore, Boras.
