I wish him well.  He's a good lad and his best football is also good, when it's seen.

I do know, without fear of being contradicted by Feathers, that Brett's judgement of his correct pay scale is far in excess of what all others would judge it to be.

Hence his decision to move.

I support the Club in its reasonable offer to him.

Getting better with every match & whatever he costs is well & truly worth it

where has Josh Koster gone ?

heard a few different stories, the one with the most traction is that he & the coach didn't see eye to eye

so what is the truth ?

what a difference in 6 years.....premiership in 2015....to a low ebb in the clubs' history if not the lowest,  we know they have a very very good coach so they need to get some cattle because the cattle  is ordinary after their top hand full of players

we know that it can be turned around quickly as Norwood, Sturt & Glenelg have proven over the last decade

i'll add i think that they have never gotten over the mid season draft that stole Snelling & Noble from them

I think that the wheels had well and truly fallen off prior to them loosing Snelling and Noble in the very unfair midseason draft. In the previous three years West had finished bottom, second bottom and bottom and were already destined to finish bottom when they lost Snelling and Noble.
And surely you meant North, not Norwood with respect to turning things around quickly. North went from bottom to top back to second bottom then to second in the last 4 years. Norwood were competitive for a number of years prior to their three premierships in a row.
North in 2015 were probably a worse side than West this year, but North did have as many as 23 first choice players out injured during that year.
Incredibly looking at the two teams now, some West supporting friends maintain that they were very unlucky to lose to Glenelg in Round one. Whether that is true or not if they were to play Glenelg now you would expect the margin to be closer to 111 points than 11 points.

We do have 8 players missing from that first game against Glenelg but I doubt they'd make the massive difference we'd ned to get close to them now.
And rocket rooster you're right, we were struggling when we lost Noble and Snelling, but when you are struggling and you lose your best two players that sets you back on your heels.
But the situation we are in now is of our own doing, or lack of doing.

Whilst I could take the view that this was an excellent result for Sturt, I am really not thinking that way. Sturt's defence is the most miserly (a Mattner legacy) but it must have been uninspiring footy with only 1, 2 and 2 goals kicked for 3 quarters.

In today's footy this is bad for the SANFL.
All the previous low scores (sans goal) were 100 years ago.

It probably pinpoints just how thin clubs are having to go with a playing group and in being subservient to a system largely out of their control.

As was said above, you can go from bottom to top and back again in 3 seasons. And this seems to be happening more frequently these days in my memory.

I would like to know if the sanfl themselves is of a similar view and what they may be doing to assist player retention, recruiting and unforeseen playing roster losses, because I can't see much tangible evidence of it.

Sadly I think its pretty obvious that West havent got the cattle. Since the 2015 Premiership won by West we,ve seen the salary cap reduced by a substantial amount. We also saw clubs like South and West forced to operate on a salary cap less than other clubs for a couple of years. This has harmed clubs ability to retain and recruit players. The introduction of the Mid season draft (daft) has also hurt clubs like South and West as well. Its tough times..I think West have to recruit 2-3 quality players in the off season ,stick with the coach- he's a great coach and an even better bloke, and better times will come.

Agree, the decision by the SANFL to force a reduced salary cap on 2 clubs was made by people with no idea of the obvious consequences.

he is not only a great coach, he's a real people person and people manager as well.
Every player at your club will improve under his guidance, he will make ordinary players better.
Find 2-3 good recruits and you'll be right in the thick of it.
We were a basket case when he arrived at South and he took us to a prelim in his first year.

This post gave me a lot of hope pre-season and, while I'm not blaming you blueandwhite, none of the above has happened. He has not improved any of our players and despite having 2-3 good recruits we have not improved at all. Every coach needs good players to be successful, and we don't have anywhere near enough of them, but he'd want to be able to point to significant improvement part way through next year.

Its very difficult to make a silk purse from a sow's ear...
keep the faith....
the alternative is to sack the coach and let him take the blame for inheriting an inept list.

..from what I hear the Coach is the least of your problems at West at the moment.

West have lost its 2 most promising players this week, Dunkin and Duval.

The Club is in crisis with its playing list, now losing 5 of its best 8 players, recruiting only one so far.

Might be the 1964 premiers.

Mitch Duval, some say Unley, others say another SANFL Club.

I think it will be Oval Avenue.

The two departees were given an absolutely scathing send off by the West Adelaide F.C. in a letter to club members. They certainly won't be welcomed back.

I think you're right, feathers.

Dunkin to South, Duval to the Eagles most likely.

Duval is an excellent intercept marking defender, will fit the Eagles perfectly.

I generally avoid commenting on things like this as can understand the emotion associated with such decisions. Such a public statement - with no thanks given for service or best wishes along the way for two players who represented the club very well in their time there - looks a very risky move. Particularly for a prospective recruit considering moving to West.
