End of VFL Reserves
It was reported yesterday that the VFL Development League, that is the VFL Reserves comp, will cease from the end of this season. This means that players, including AFL-listed players, who don't make the VFL senior side will have to play in a suburban (or I guess regional) competition that week.
This seems to run counter to the argument that AFL teams need to keep all their players together in the one team, which is the argument for the existence of the AFL teams in the SANFL. It also might mean that we are heading towards an AFL Reserves competition. And without having thought long and hard about it, the possibility that this presents to have the SANFL free of AFL representation is appealing to me.

Heard something about this earlier in the week, didn't hear the lot but seemed to me that it would make a bigger gap between the quality of the afl down to the next tier

Might lead to SANFL clubs picking up some handy players

Maybe but wouldn't most decent players be playing in the "league team" ?

Not necessarily would be some good players more than capable of playing SANFL

I noticed Andy Collins (Williamstown) was against it.
Another slap in the face of building clubs and the lower - middle levels of footy.

I don't understand the whole concept that happens in America, but if this happens does it head that way?
