South would want to improve on what I saw of them today...bayman wrote:looks like it.......maybe a Sturt against South grand final !!!!
Still a long way to go in the season, but the Double Blues are playing some very impressive footy...

about a third of a side out will ruin any teams chances, i wouldn't worry about todays' loss if i were South, today will mean nothing if at full strength in September

Was waiting for this call.
Almost posted it myself.
Certainly playing as hard nosed footy as I have seen of any Blues side in the last dozen years.
Was tight today for 3 quarters until the game broke in the last.
Mattner has the kids playing a take no prisoners style, that is getting the job done.

About a month ago the Crows looked invincible, then South made it 6-0, now Sturt have the run.
Central at their best can match it with anyone and don't write off the Eagles who have won 4 in row.
That is without considering Norwood, Port or North putting a run together.
Looking to be one of the more open premiership races in some time.

Ok all but perhaps West are the real deal.
And after 8 rounds I have absolutely no idea why that would be the case.
When would the last time a premier be written off at this stage of the season.
Strange times, strange times.....

Sturt might be, South aren't on yesterdays efforts, Centrals could, Eagles are most likely as they'll be hungrier than anyone after last year and Adelaide at full strength will be hard to beat.
If the 5 end up Sturt, South, Eagles, Adelaide and Centrals it will be a good series. Port the most likely to take one of those sides spots IMO.

It's only May but my tip as at the end of the major round:
Eagles
Centrals
Adelaide
South
Sturt
Norwood/ North/Glenelg
Port
West
Predicting a bit of a drop away for your mob, waddyamean?
Whay's that?

Re: are Sturt the real deal ?
I've just got back from holiday and I'm a bit confused.
I looked at the ladder and it seems to be upside down.
Is it correct?
It shows South and Sturt at the top and West, Norwood and Port at the bottom.
To make it more ridiculous, it shows my mob at 0-8 with a percentage in the 30's.
Is this correct, or is my nightmare really just a nightmare?
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the first time this year West managed to win a couple of quarters (to the same end) in R8, and two consecutive quarters this round gone. Not sure about being them being the 'real deal', but I don't think they're not as far away from opening their account this year as some might think.Chambo Off To Work We Go wrote:Ok all but perhaps West are the real deal.

It may sound a bit cliche, but I reckon once they get a bit of self belief back, they might give one or two sides something to think about by seasons end.
Even the 'Dogs dominant years weren't entirely free of stuttered starts, eg 2005. Not quite this bad of course but where there's light....
Back on Sturt, well, time for me to sit on the fence with a 'definitely maybe'. With one loss and around 58% at this point, they'll certainly be in the running. A long way to go yet, so, as to whether they've got a side that can win a flag, I guess the only one that can truly answer that is them. Same for any club.

Re: are Sturt the real deal ?
I think it illustrates, as I said in an earlier post, what a fickle game football is, and how little it takes to turn the ladder upside down. Sturt could only win 6 games for the whole season in 2015. Now after a loss in round 1 we're on a roll. We'll enjoy it while it's going, but we know damn well how quickly it can turn, if we were to start taking things for granted. I can't even begin to explain West. Some outs from last year, probably not matched by the ins. same coach, 0-8, really on paper they don't look that bad. I guess it's true that it is all about the psychological things, like self belief, commitment and so on.Lee wrote:I've just got back from holiday and I'm a bit confused.

Yes they are the real deal...and will definitely finish top 3.
The fact that they managed to recruit/afford 4 recruits who were all on AFL lists last year has a fair bit to do with it.
