Round 7: Sturt v Centrals - Sunday 17 May @ Peter Motley Oval
Centrals and Sturt combined for a total of two behinds last week. Will they continue their accurate kicking this week, and who will get the win?

Have to fancy the Double Blues at home. They are just quietly going about their business and with some injured players likely to return could be the team to keep an eye out for in the 2nd half of the season.

Sturt will be too quick for Central, Sturt by 5 goals running away

Sturt by 5 points
Should Sturt win, could see a 2 1/2 game gap between 6th and 7th so early in the season

The Double Blues will have too much pace and class for the Dogs - I predict a 30 point win

I love this bit from the SANFL site in the team selections:
"while small forward Domenic Costanzo (181cm and 82kg) has worked hard for his chance after having multiple broken arms last year."
How many arms has this guy got? He could be a very dangerous forward, holding back a few defenders with several of his arms and then marking with two of his free ones.

Geez you get so defensive when anyone criticises your beloved Dogs, the ladder doesnt lie, you have won 1 from 5 and I think it will be 1 from 6 by Sunday night. Guess we will have to wait and seeBig Phil wrote:Only went down to your mob by a couple of goals at the start of the year...Aceman wrote:Sturt by 10 goals, Dogs are no good

A very entertaining game this afternoon that was very tight. In the end, a 15 minute lapse by Centrals in the first quarter and missed opportunities in the first and last quarters was the difference between the two sides.
A lot of good to come out of the game from a Centrals point of view - while they didn't win, it was their best all round performance this year.

Then again, if he didn't have any arms he'd be 'armless.

(purely as a joke) perhaps young Dom has a reputation in night clubs that i'd be proud off

I expected a tough game today and that's exactly what we got. Each time we looked like we might break away, Centrals lifted their workrate and came back. In the end we were happy to come away with the points. Interesting duel between Beard and Retzlaff. Two strong marking players. Beard took 10 marks and Retzlaff took 8 and kicked 5 goals.

Not defensive, at all, mate, just making comment that they were competitive against Norwood and that I disagree with your predicted result. Obviously you were wrong with the margin but Sturt were the better team on the day.Aceman wrote:Geez you get so defensive when anyone criticises your beloved Dogs, the ladder doesnt lie, you have won 1 from 5 and I think it will be 1 from 6 by Sunday night. Swings and roundabouts...
You know how Dogs fans are feeling at the moment though, only have to go back to Trevor Hill days and, as proven in recent times, a club can turn their fortunes around pretty quickly...
Central had their time in the sun for a mightly long time. Norwood are having theirs at the moment and no doubt, as you would atest, it is a bloody good feeling. Imagine if Norwood play in the next 6 GF's and win another 4 or 5 of them !!!
Swings and roundabouts, mate, it's just some have more time on the swings than others

He'd be tough to match up on against developing kids if the ball is coming in high.

I'd probably have to say Retzlaff. We eventually shifted Fraser Evans onto him and pushed Beard forward. Beard's a versatile player, but he likes to go for the mark, whereas Evans is a more disciplined spoiler. Beard would be a gun at CHF if his goalkicking was a bit more reliable.bayman wrote:countrycousin wrote:I expected a tough game today and that's exactly what we got. Bad injury news from Sunday's Sturt v Centrals game.
Jack Stephens - Neck/back - spinal fractures - 6-8 weeks
Wish the young man a complete recovery with no residual problems.
