We're sure you intended that as a joke, br, but sometimes jokes overstep the mark.
Nick Stevens has been found guilty of assault in a domestic violence situation. Transposing that on anyone else isn't appropriate at all, even done jokingly.
We don't like deleting posts, but in this case we think it's the right thing to do.

Not wishing to be pedantic but if you were so offended by his post that you deleted it, why did you then quote it in your post ?

CORNES TO COACH WEST END STATE TEAM
The SANFL is excited to announce Graham Cornes will coach the West End State Team in 2015.
Cornes, the most successful State coach in South Australia’s history, will guide the best players in the SANFL against the WAFL at Lathlain Park in Perth on Saturday May 23.
A member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame, Cornes earned an impressive 8-2 win-loss record while coaching the Croweaters in State of Origin contests between 1986 and 1999.
‘’The SANFL is thrilled Graham has agreed to coach the West End State Team in 2015,’’ SANFL General Manager Football Adam Kelly said.
‘’As the most successful State coach in South Australia’s history, Graham’s record speaks for itself so to have someone of his calibre coaching the best players in the SANFL is a real coup.
‘’Graham has demonstrated his enduring passion for South Australian football, ensuring our players and West End State Team staff will be the beneficiaries of that when we take on the WAFL.’’
A dual premiership coach with SANFL club Glenelg and the Adelaide Football Club’s inaugural mentor, Cornes will be joined by Chairman of Selectors Stephen Rowe, who retains his position for the fourth year in succession.
The West End State Team’s panel of assistant coaches is expected to be finalised within the next fortnight.

Re: State Coach
Terrible decision IMO.
Yes he has an impressive record, but he hasn't coached a serious side in over 15 years, and alot of his opinion pieces of late show he is quite out of touch with the modern game.

I agree BT. What sort of idea would he have of the strengths and weaknesses of most SANFL players? And the last time he coached, all six forwards all played in the forward line.

I would guess that the SANFL were extremely limited in people actually prepared to take on the role.

Take out the dots and read backwards.
1973 (grand Final)
12 (His guernsey number)
Sorry to be so obtuse, but Waddayamean got it.

Re: State Coach
I admit my first post on this thread was a very poor attempt at humour.
But I also think the announcement of Cornes as coach is a very poor attempt at humour!!!!!
Were there just no Modern Day coaches available?
The game has evolved a lot since GC last coached.

Re: State Coach
A lot of harsh critics out there, i was hoping Graham would say yes when Glenelg approached him, anyway just because he hasn't coached in so many years doesn't mean he can't coach now, he's been a football commentator since so he has his hand on the game anyway..........with state footy the players basically do it themselves anyway with their pride, enthusiasm & professionalism, he'll do a great job but at the end of the day it'll be up to the players

Re: State Coach
First, I doubt many of the current coaches would have been available. Micky Godden has been great, but he knows it took time away from his main task with the Eagles.
Secondly, you can't teach new structures for a one-off game, but you do need someone with enthusiasm for the job, Cornes will have that, along with passion for the SANFL.
I think it's a great decision.
As an aside, I've been involved in a minor way as a trainer with several State games. The coaches were Graham Cornes, John Cahill, Mike Nunan and Alistair Clarkson.
They all had passion for the game and were excellent.
