FRANCOU BOUND FOR SYDNEY
North Adelaide coach Josh Francou has accepted an AFL development role with the Sydney Swans.
Desperate to turn his side’s fortunes around in Sunday’s Elimination Final, Francou will end his three-year tenure with the Roosters once the club’s finals campaign comes to an end.
North has lost its past five matches in succession, leaving the former Power star with a significant challenge against Central District at AAMI Stadium.
‘’While it is an exciting opportunity, my sole focus is on preparing the North Adelaide Football Club for Sunday’s Elimination Final,’’ Francou said.
‘’We face a tough assignment against Central District and I’ve got to make sure the playing group is ready to perform at its peak during the major round.’’
Francou will re-locate to Sydney in November, when he will link up with the Swans for pre-season training.
The 39-year-old remains close friends with former Power team-mate Stuart Dew, who is a member of Sydney’s coaching panel under premiership mentor John Longmire.
Having started his senior coaching career at Prospect in 2011, Francou missed the finals in his first year at the helm as North finished in eighth spot on seven wins.
In 2012, Francou guided the Roosters to the preliminary final after finishing the minor round in fourth place with 10 victories.
This year, North has ended the minor round in fifth spot after chalking up 11 wins, leaving Francou with an overall win-loss record of 28-32 across his three minor rounds in charge.
He has a 2-1 win-loss record in the major round after his side lost to West Adelaide in last year’s penultimate match.
North Adelaide joins SANFL rivals South Adelaide and West Adelaide in searching for a new senior coach this off-season.

Re: Francou Leaving North
As they say things come in threes.
With Kym Russell departing West, Francou departing North in the last 24 hours, who's next?
We have West, North and South looking for coaches. Will they be likewise joined by another club in the near future?
And what are Port going to decide to do?
Have they made a decision yet?
Turbulent times.

Other than Laird, is there another current SANFL coach who is committed to coaching their team in 2014?

Re: Francou Leaving North
It brings back unfortunate memories for this Sturt supporter, of what happened when Macgowan brought us to the brink of being a serious premiership contender, then left for greener pastures. We thought we had the replacement already on hand. But 2 years later we were bottom. It will be interesting to see if North can do it better. They could hardly do any worse.
