Not the only job he was offered either by the sound of it.

Part time SANFL coach is nearly full time anyway these days.
They must get a hundred phone calls a day.

Re: Who will coach West?
Roo and Dits interviewed Mark Mickan tonight after he was appointed as West's new coach.
Had some interesting things to say.
It will be part time appointment that he expects would see him at the Club 2 or 3 days during the week. Is a contract teacher at St Michaels also.
Has been doing some scouting for Geelong this year and has watched a lot of Norwood games and has some ideas on what approach is needed to combat their style. He obviously didn't say what they were.
Praised Andy Collins for his work over 6 years. Mickan would have seen a lot of that at close quarters with his previous role as Footy Manager at West.
Personally, I think Westies have done well in this appointment.
It fits and if no Collins was the go, then Mickan seems the obvious choice. He would know the team, the system and the culture pretty well at Richmond, so he won't have a steep learning curve and with a year or so away from the place, he should be fairly fresh and raring to go.
