Yep agree. She was brilliant. Out of about 30 games I've seen todays game was easily the best umpiring display from all that I've seen this year. Hope these 3 can get a few finals.

SANFL umpires across all disciplines and grades making their debut are generally given two matches in a row at that level to start off, so we can probably expect to see her in the seniors next week too.

Re: Umpire Eleni Glouftsis
Good debut for Elly
Interesting after the game
She was out the front of the change rooms taking to some people for about 10 minutes
Is that because she could not change with her male counterparts ?
Would she have had a different room to change ?
Or was she simply talking to friends ?
As she ran onto the field today a group of spectators were quite vocal
They were yelling out compliments
Compliments directed at experienced boundary umpire Steve Wilson !
I must admit I went to this game , partly to see Elly umpire
Its been a tough year in the SANFL with all the negativity of new SANFL Reserves teams etc
To come out and see Elly, and to see the crowd support and the respect she had b4 during and after the game was great.
It was good timing, the SANFL comp needed something nice , the last few weeks have been bitter , rivaling the bitterness of when PA snuck into the AFL
The Glenelg and North supporters and others behind the Farmer end goals must be commended for their support of Elly.
Not one smartarse or sexist remark.
Most applauded Ellys debut

THE AFL could make history in 2016 and see its first ever female field umpire.
Eleni Glouftsis, who last year became the VFL’s first female field umpire, is one of 12 rookies on the AFL’s umpires list.
The league lists 32 umpires as well as a dozen rookies who sit on the bench on game-day and enter the match if an injury occurs.
That means if an umpire is hurt at one of Glouftsis’ matches this season, she will break the umpiring glass ceiling.
“She’s done quite a few club visits,” AFL Umpires Director Wayne Campbell told SEN.
“(She’s) coming along really well.”
Glouftsis has been umpiring intraclub games this pre-season, having already worked at St Kilda and doing the same for Essendon on Friday.
“Well, let’s pray for an injury,” SEN co-host David Schwarz joked.
South Australian Glouftsis earned a three-year scholarship to train with the VFL and AFL in 2014.
She along with Libby Toovey and Annie Mirabile umpired the exhibition women’s matches in 2015, while Glouftsis was also the first woman to umpire a SANFL game, working on 15 games in 2014.
The AFL has previously had three female goal umpires — Katrina Pressley, Chelsea Roffey and Rose O’Dea.

Eleni gets a gig in the NAB Cup this weekend, best of luck to her. When she started in the SANFL I thought she was fantastic, but her last year or two, IMHO, were poor. Like really, really poor. Here's hoping she smashes it on the weekend.

I feel for the umpires, often the "interpretations" of the rules can be out and out bollocks and it makes it impossible to umpire with any consistency when they are coached or directed with such ambiguity.

I agree with that.
When the rules and interpretations change every year and even differently within a given season, they must second guess themselves all the time.
Umpiring in general would improve immeasurably in my opinion if they stopped stuffing about with the rules.

I think they're only responding to what the 180 AFL coaches and assistant coaches are doing to the game every year.

i thought she did well today in her first AFL trial match, also as mentioned in an earlier post today you could hear her voice over the microphones clearly.......not even her biggest critic could be critical on todays performance

That seems to be the feedback in the media too. Great news, glad to hear she's done (and doing) well.
