Word going around is that he wasn't happy to be told he was playing reserves, but you never really know what goes on behind closed doors.

Never rated him over here, felt he came purely for $$$... if I were a Norwood Fan, I would be happy to see the back of him. Too much of an individual IMHO. He'll go back to VFL no doubt, get paid good money & be the same there.
A very good footballer but appeared to always be 'about him'.

.Despite the Eagle's premiership win last year, it seems West not matching other clubs' offers to Eagleton, Tiller and Welsh hasn't been such a bad thing.
I think Eagleton will retire now, LEH?.

Re: Nathan Eagleton Departs
At times last season, Eagleton played some useful football for Norwood. Where is backfired is in 275 AFL games, he never had to cope with a hard tag and found it difficult to handle.
His strength was his speed and running through the lines to set up scoring opportunities. I never thought we made best use of his abilities at Norwood. Sadly, another factor was he had obviously lost a yard in pace which was another reason he couldn't break a tag.
In a way, I'm sorry to hear he's no longer at Norwood, but he needed to understand he was no longer a walk up start to the team and needed to earn his place. Watching him in the trials, he was struggling a little so it was no surprise he couldn't make the 21.
I thank him for his contribution and wish him well. Oh, and contrary to popular belief, he was not paid the money people imagined. He came to Norwood in search of a premiership, money was never an issue.

he had a choice which club to sign with & that's his right, his reasons for doing that are his & his alone, with this quitting because you are dropped is childish, selfish & pretentious act, why not go back play well & get back into the league team.....there are two players that readily spring to mind that did the same (there's been more than that as well) Adam Contessa (Glenelg) & Clive Waterhouse (Port)

Re: Nathan Eagleton Departs
Just remember this. There has been no official word that he quit purely because he wasn't selected in the league team. I am yet to hear the official reason, but I will find out. It may have been a case of having a go, and not being selected was a wake up call that he was never going to play league again.
Bass can be a very candid individual, and he may just have told Eagleton he would never make the team. He's done it before.

Millsy, I have heard a few coaches actually coaching in the Sanfl now that have said to certain players " you are not a required player and you won't get a league game this year". To which, the player has cleaned out their locker and moved on. Guess sometimes you have to be brutally honest

Eagleton wasn't actually dropped, he hadn't played against Central either. I know Bass was ambivalent towards Eagleton suiting up again in 2012 but he wasn't costing the club much so he was kept on the list. I guess Bass finally made his decision.

Re: Nathan Eagleton Departs
Fact is that Eagleton arrived at Norwood and struggled for most of the season, yes he had some flashes of good play, but for the larger 9/10th's of the season struggled to play the standard required in the SANFL and probably should have been sent to the magoos last year to win back some confidence in his game.
Think its fairly obvious that Bass made the right decision and its indicative of good coaching to take the hard decisions on board, likely one of the reasons why Norwood are where they are at present.

Whether he has or not played his last game for norwood is only speculation at this time .
An article in today's paper is saying he dropped out of the reserve side due to not recovering from a corked hip he received in there last trial.

Yes, and quite rightly that support was withdrawn once too many marks were apparently overstepped.Millsy wrote:Didn't the NFC also state publicly that Bill Leane had their full support.

Nathan Eagleton announces his retirement from football this afternoon:
Norwood midfielder, Nathan Eagleton, has today announced his retirement from League football.
Eagleton, who played 23 SANFL League games for Norwood after transferring from the Western Bulldogs at the end of the 2010 season, has signalled his latest hip injury setback and mental fatigue, as his reasons for stepping away from the game.
Nathan made the following statement today:
“I sat down and had a good conversation with senior coach Nathan Bassett and Football Operations Manager Mark Ross, about where I am at, both physically and mentally, since hurting my hip in our last trial game against Sturt.
“I have always stated that once I feel I am no longer able to contribute to the best of my abilities that I will walk away from the game and begin a new chapter in my life.
“There are a number of high quality players at Norwood who are capable of playing my role, and I feel by continuing to play I could well be hindering the development of these individuals.
“I would like to thank everyone involved at Norwood for making me feel so welcome during my time here. I will be taking a few weeks break to spend some time with my family before returning to assist Nathan Bassett and his team of coaches in the mentoring, coaching and development of our playing list.”
Revealed first on ABC-TV Saturday afternoon.
