Re: Glenelg
Interesting.... drive past Glenelg Oval now.
All signs that identify it as Glenelg Football Club have been pulled down. New large signs read " POKIES from 8AM" .....
No GFC logos ... nothing.

I think he is saying there are no GFC signs at Glenelg Oval as you drive along Brighton Rd.

Re: Glenelg
without knowing the actual reasoning i would suggest rather than being seen as a ''football club'' they want to be seen as a ''community club''

I am saying there are no signs to identify it as the Glenelg Football Club. No logos up. Zip !
You would not even know the GFC was even there.

I am amazed by the silence on this . They seem to be doing nothing . I know they would be but the way this is being handled seems strange. Would have to be changes at board level surely .
Why?

I'm NOT amazed at the silence on this situation.
The council hold all the aces in this matter and until they have made a decision the Glenelg Football Club really cannot say anything.
With the amount of money involved and what Glenelg are asking of the council I would expect the matter not to be resolved anytime soon.

Why should there be Board changes?

in short, there was a council meeting about 2 weeks ago & they voted to keep supporting the club

Re: Glenelg
Not obvious to me.
The situation is probably quite complex, with many contractual arrangements to consider.
Sturt turned things around by changing the management structure and other programs, not the board en masse.
Eagles seem to be doing a similar thing.
So the question "why" seems quite valid.

Chambo is correct, W.
Club boards change regularly as directors retire and are replaced. Measures to improve the club's finances usually take some time to flow through to meaningful results. Suggestions to change a Board is often just a knee-jerk reaction. The practicality of SANFL Boards is that there are a limited number of people with the required skills and available time who put their hand up to serve.
I'm not up with what the Glenelg Board are doing, but I will guarantee they're doing everything they can to turn the club's fortunes around. I could also make an educated guess that they are probably succeeding in that aim.
SANFL clubs, apart from perhaps one or two, are facing difficult times. Falling revenue and membership, rising costs, especially electricity, and more competition for sponsorship dollars are making things very difficult.
You would probably find that it's the very people you want replaced who are the ones who are keeping one or two clubs afloat.
You should also realise that the SANFL is working closely with all clubs to improve the situation. Sometimes that leads to difficult decisions, often unpopular decisions, but the end result is likely to be 8 financially viable clubs.

i drove past it this morning & had a quick look because of heavy traffic & i can say that the electronic board changed at one stage to ''home of the tigers'' so there is a little bit there

I have been known to cheer for the Tigers occasionally. Who do you support WDYM?
There is a big "Glenelg Club" sign on the building, perhaps they are tarting the place up!
