English Soccer
Just wondering who is your side in English Soccer and how you came to choose that side?
Mine is clearly Sheffield Wednesday and originally it was because they came from Sheffield, were not Sheffield United and were Blue and White!

When I was a kid and it used to be shown on Sunday's about lunchtime (ABC I think?), instantly became a fan of Ossie Ardiles and Glenn Hoddle and have kept an eye on Tottenham ever since. not passionate but just a big interest.

Going ok too Ben. It looks like an interesting end to the Season with both United and Wednesday fighting it out for an automatic spot, although Huddersfield are looking pretty good and might be the dark horse.
What would you give for an all Sheffield P/OFF final?

I don't have a team, but I'm trying to develop a greater interest in and understanding of the game, and hopefully from there be able to find a team to support.

If you like North Melbourne KangaBlue, Sheffield Wednesday have the same colours and a very similar guernsey!

Not a good night for the Owls, losing at home to Stevenage whilst the Blades had a big away win at Huddersfield

AVB must be counting the days before he is given the big E out of Chelsea.
After their draw with Birmingham in the FA cup at the week end, they have lost away to Napoli 3-1 in the 1st leg on the last 16 in the champions league.
They have a mountain to climb in the second leg after taking the lead. Lose at Brum in the FA cup replay and their season is all but over
Abramovich has made no secret of his desire to ein the CL and AVB has not delivered this year

Speaking of the CL, this will be the 1st time in 16 years that the EPL will not be represented in the qtr finals of the CL.
(assuming Arsenal don't over turn their 4-0 deficit and Chelsea do overturn their 3-1 deficit)

John Terry out of action for at least 6 weeks through injury
Tevez has unreservedly apologised for his actions and stated that he wants to play for City.
Notably he had lost a reputed £9.3 million through his 5 month absence in lost wages, sponsorship and bonuses. Shame!

Portsmouth go into administration and are deducted 10 points. Just to rub salt in their wounds Nottm Forest go and win at Birmingham City leaving Pompey in the relegation zone.

Isn't that the 2nd time Portsmouth have gone into administration in recent years or am I confusing them with another team? Maybe time to think about consolidating their loans into one easy monthly payment

Similarly nothing too special.
My mum went to Uni there.
I was born not too far from there, although Man U is closer.
Maybe because Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalgleish plied their trade during the early 80s.
and now dunno just like them because Gerrard is pretty cool and King Kenny is back.
....and my back toilet (read sporting locker room) has Liverpool stickers all over it.

My Grandfather played for Gillingham, but when he was called up North to London's naval docklands during
World War 1 to complete his shipwright's apprenticeship, 'The Arsenal' asked him to come on board.
Although his time was limited, we understand he played a number of games, mainly in the club's reserves team.
But that's good enough for me !!!
ONYA GRAMPS !!!
GUNNERS FOREVER !!!
& the Gills, of course !

Gunners for me also, I remember watching the FA cup live in black & white about 1971 and a player for Arsenal named Charlie George was playing for them and scored, he had hair half way down his back, he was a bit of a cult hero for them in those days. Come to think of it, I had long hair back then to.

Liverpool won the Carling Cup after a penalty shhotout. Was a great game to watch with both sides scoring in extra time.
Ironically, Gerrard who plays for Liverpool missed a penalty (or rather it was saved by the keeper) and his coousin Gerrard missed a penalty for Cardiff.
this was Liverpools 1st vist to the new Wembley stadium.

I was given an Arsenal scarf for my 18th birthday (even though I wasn't a football follower at the time); but I've never really felt any particular connection to any given team.

Go the Reds!
Very un-Gerrard like to miss a penalty.

It was an outstanding save by the Cardiff keeper.

That means that we are undefeated at the new Wembley then.

Re: English Soccer
Correct Jas. Two years ago they went into administration which cost them their place in the EPL. They have been racked with financial difficulties since and the tax man is still after them.
This year former manager Redknap was in court for tax fraud. He was cleared (although how the hell he was found not guilty when he had an offshore bank account in the name of his dog, is beyond me), along with former owner Mandric.
The sad thing is 31 employees have been made redundant as a result of this 2nd administration.
Not a good time if you are a Pompey fan.
