Re: 2012 Magarey Medal Preview
Have the 18s and Reserves medallists been announced. They usually are before the main count but can't seem to find them anywhere.
I assume Ryan Djiksman will win the 18s as he also won the Maccas Cup MVP.
Scott Blesing would be a strong favourite in the reserves.

Pretty sure that the Maccas Cup MVP and 18s Magarey Medal (not sure what it's called) are 2 different awards.

Tomkins Medal. It was the old U19s medal.

Many say Cross will win the medal ,he has won the Advertiser award for the second year in a row, however as someone who has witnessed most games this year I think hes had a quieter year than last year when he only garnered a few votes.
My tip for the medal is Nick Liddle, last years runner up- beaten in the last round of voting. He had a ripper start to the year in the first 6-7 games and should be an early leader in the count. He was heavily tagged in later stages of the year but still managed many 20+ possession games.
He's a prven vote getter , and in my opinion, pound for pound the best player in the sanfl.
Spot on ! Was going to write the same.
Cross started the year slow whereas Liddle seemed to be more consistent throughout the year will only 1 or 2 average games.
Plus I love the man !

Re: 2012 Magarey Medal Preview
Final result interesting comparison with CK's preview.
Cross picked to tie for the Medal
Symes tipped to get 19 votes (got 18)
A good number of round-by-round votes for players proved correct, including in losses

CHris Schmidt unlucky.
Missed the last 3 games (?), didn't get any votes in a couple of late games where he might have.
Congratulations to the winners, though. Both Cross and Symes are fair players and totally deserved their win.
Good to see the Panthers with a MM win.
(and a TFSA win - a tie between 2 different players!)

Wonderful win for Crossy!!
Very happy. A positive light in an otherwise disappointing year for us Panthers.

Schmidt can count himself very unlucky. Round 20 against Centrals he had 29 disposals including 10 clearances and couldn't get a vote.

Re: 2012 Magarey Medal Preview
Interesting you mention that, Flag No. 9.
I've had a look through all of the games in all of the rounds, and just highlighting a few games here where stats don't always indicate how the votes will go.
Must preface it by saying, there is absolutely no reason that stats SHOULD be the main indicator - that said, a remarkable number of games went virtually 3-2-1 in order of possession getters.
Some games of note, however:
Round 2: NWD d Central by 20 points
2. Jace Bode (NWD): 12 disp, 3 tackles, 1 goal
No votes: Nathan Batsanis (NWD): 33 disp, 3 tackles, 9 clearances
Round 7: WA d PA by 35 points
3. Daniel Webb (WA): 9 disp, 23 hitouts.
No votes for James Mieklejohn, 8 disp, 33 hitouts
Round 10: NA d GL by 27 points
1. Ty Allen (GL): 13 disp, 3 frees against, 5 clearances
Zero votes: Tom Lynch (GL): 33 disp, 11 marks, 7 clearances
Round 11: NA d NWD by 1 point
3. David Rodan (NWD): 21 disp, 5 tackles, 9 clearances. 8th leading possession getter on ground.
Zero votes, James Allan, 37 disp, 5 Frees For, 5 clearances, 1 goal
Round 14: Gl d South by 3 points
2. Brad Agnew (GL): 10 disp, 3 tackles, no goals.
Round 17: North d South by 6 points
3. G. Thring (NA)
2. C. Thiele (NA)
1. L Ryswyk (NA)
No votes: James Allan – 36 disp, 6 marks, 11 clearances, 1 goal
Round 20: West d Central by 31 points
3. F. Caruso (WA)
2. D. Caire (WA)
1. Ben Fisher (WA): 14 poss, 1 tackle, no goals
No votes: Chris Schmidt (WA). 29 disp (leading on ground), 5 tackles, 10 clearances
Round 21: Glenelg d Sturt by 5 points
2. Luke Panozzo (Sturt): 12 disp, 2 marks, 1 goal
Round 22: North d Port by 28 points
3. Sam Mayes (NA): 13 disp, 8 marks, 2 goals

Re: 2012 Magarey Medal Preview
If we follow the form , then Nathan Batsanis was a good thing beaten
Nathan missed the last game against Glenelg after getting injured against the Eagles
These were the votes given for the NW V GL games in 2012
Round 7
3 Batsanis
2 Thomas
1 Webber
Round 12
3 Batsanis
2 Suckling
1 Dawe
Round 23
3 Phillips
2 Lyons
1 Allen
Had Nathan played and got his 3rd B.O.G against Glenelg , he would have finished equal first on 18 as well !!!

Looking at the leader board, you wouldn't want to have put money on anyone over about 6 foot.

Umpires like players they don't have to look up to.

Congratulations to both Brad Symes and Joel Cross - deserving winners...
James Boyd paid the price of an indescretion that he no-doubt would have regretted as soon as he did it...
Unfortunate for him but you do the crime, you do the time...
