what are the rules ?
former Glenelg player Chris Kane got a free (fair enough) before the first siren was sounded, he kicked the point & the game continued, now i'm not totally ofay with the technical rules/laws of the game but shouldn't the umpire have blown the whistle for the siren to sound & then let Kane have the kick ?

I spoke to one of the Umpires Observers about this at the ground yesterday Bayman, to clarify it for the RPH listeners.
The Umpires Observer told me that the free kick was allowed to be awarded, the field umpire in charge did the right thing and held the ball above his head to indicate the start of the game but in all the comotion of what was happening, the time keeper at the Bay forgot to press the button to sound the siren.

Thanks for that, BP.
I saw the umpire do the right thing.
By the way, Glenelg supporters not happy with the decision might remember last year when West were penalised similarly twice in the same game before the siren - at the start and after half-time, I think.
