Re: AFL player spitting dummy ?
Not sure he is 'spitting the dummy' as you put it, rather seeking better opportunities at another club:

Not sure that Glenelg should bother to stand in his way, if he is going to change to anywhere he should have to go to the Magpies with the one club deal and so on Few excuses then however if he cannot get a game...

Salopek nominated Port Magpies as the club he would like to be transferred to while South have shown an interest as well...

What a surprise. Another Port Power player leaving an SANFL club and joining the Port Magpies.

The surprise would have been if he DIDN'T go to the Port Magpies

Re: AFL player spitting dummy ?
Is this to be the standard approach to all Power listed players disgruntled with their sanfl lot in life?
I recall when there was a Power player about 3 seasons ago that got peed off with his treatment in Double Blue land.
There was discussion at the time that he was supposed to go to the lowest ranked team. I think it was South at the time and that's where he went.
Is this approach still current? Or do they now just nominate where they want to go?

I do seem to recall there was a rule saying the player had to go to the lowest team, for memory I seem to recall Farmer going from Sturt to South, not sure of the circumstances there.
In mid-season 2007, Luke Jericho sought a clearance from West Adelaide to Norwood. At the time, West were bottom, Norwood were in 7th spot. Had that rule existed at the time, he should have gone to South Adelaide who were 8th. There must be more to it than that.

Is it different if it happens mid-season?

I think that clubs put their hand up and the player makes a choice from there. With Port desperate to make the finals, IMO they'd have taken anyone if they thought it was a boost to their side.
Maybe someone can enlighten us to who has made transfers mid-season since 1997?

I think it also depends on how long the AFL player had previously been with the SANFL club he is requested to be transferred from. In Sal's situation, he would have been with the Bays for a good 5 years, at least.

Re: AFL player spitting dummy ?
The difference between a Jericho and Sal is that Jericho was a West junior. If they come from the club they can transfer to any club under negotiation with a much bigger transfer fee based on points, just like any other player.
Mini Draft players can only move under dispute to the bottom ranked club (ie Farmer, Willits, Lobbe) - in this situation Sturt and the Eagles must have said no for Sal to end up at Port. The transfer fee is capped and negotiated based on circumstances.

Thanks bloodsasia, that sounds a very feasible explanation. I'd forgotten Jericho was a West junior.,
