WAFL 2016
In light of the recent demise of Ozfooty.net footy forum here in the West which devoted 90% of its content to WAFL football, I thought I would start off this thread and hopefully get a few across to join here and chat WAFL! Carn the mighty Black and whites!!

Gday Mate, yeh I saw the site get back up and running, if they can sell then it stays if not then we will have nothing again, but I suppose we can always meet here and the guys said earlier that if enough came over we could have a WAFL Thread, will see what happens with Ozfooty in the meantime, scratchies only 6 weeks away cant wait!!

How close was the WAFL in having this seasons 2016 Grand Final played as a night game ?

Mate I think it has been in discussion for a number of years now, but my belief is that wont happen until the WAFL moves to the WACA once the AFL eventually move to the new stadium in 2018

Another question.
The WAFL has had AFL players aligned to 2 clubs for longer than the SANFL. (We've only had 2 years of it).
What do you see as the major pros and cons of it?
And would you consider the arrangement provides a fair and even competition?

Re: WAFL 2016
Chambo the whole alignment thing is a shambles really, not only for non aligned teams - unfair and just plain disheartening when you see an SD product carving you up playing for East Perth or Peel, and also for stalwart fans of those clubs, mainly EP because they have a long rich history, the fans dont know half their team and each week could be multiple changes making it hard to follow. As far as Subi oval goes, that is still up in the air. Will be a shame to see that go

Re: WAFL 2016
Thanks mate, sounds a bit the same as here.
When the Crows and to a lesser extent Port players get delisted from the AFL list, they generally go back to the club they started with.
As for what you describe for the team make up, what you describe would be true of Port as they were an original sanfl club. But probably not the same for the Crows. It still seems a struggle to find too many Crows fans at a sanfl match.
The whole set up has made my interest wane somewhat.

isn't it funny how different states have different names for the same thing, reading above you blokes call them 'scratch matches' we call them 'trial matches' & the Vics call them 'practice matches' & these days 'Nab Challenge/Cup matches' just an observation of the quirkiness of the different states, off course we both have 'the budget' & the Vics have 'the record' to me a record was what you put on a record player

Yeh It is very disheartening Chambo, but what keeps us at SD going is the youngsters we continually produce, best young talent in the comp and the most draftees. From that point of view its great to be at Bassendean oval every week. Plus watching stalwarts like Justin Simpson and Tallen Ames ply their trade, just to name 2

Re: WAFL 2016
I read on the Sturt forum that the ground is in the best nick its been for a long time. I guess some AFL coin would help that. But unless they somehow open up the eastern / south-eastern side, I think you would only fit 5000-6000 in.
Back in the day when Rick Davies and Russell Ebert were parading around (1970s), if memory serves it held about 16K for a Port - Sturt game.
I remember when the Blues went back to Unley (circa 2000) it was reported that it only held 5000-odd in its current layout. Since then the eastern wing and southern side of the ground has not been opened up.
I doubt it could be increased much without major alterations. And you would have some very vocal local residents raising hell about that.

Hey Swandog, if its not too much trouble, how about a season preview of how you see the clubs going this year?
For us SA folks, any SA players looking sharp in the WAFL?
