Recruiting - oh well, such is life
"There's this lad I've been put on to, says Recruiter 1.
Nobody knows him, we'll be the only SANFL club talking to him, he's off the radar and looks a natural.
Great, let's give him a call.
Young fella, would you be interested in playing in the SANFL, the best comp outside the AFL?
Wow, I certainly would!
OK, we'll bring you over.
He's 'brought over', he's shown around, he's dined, plans are made.
Adelaide Oval - Wow, this is awesome, can't wait to play here".
Next Recruiting Meeting:
"Have you seen his highlights? Unbelievable, he'll kill it in the SANFL,. I know the highlights are only the equivalent of Grong Grong Matong v Walpeup-Underbool, but he's sensational and he looks 100% to come to us.
Next Recruiting Meeting
Heard from Young Fella? Yes, he's almost certainly coming, but says 1 or 2 AFL clubs are sniffing around. Says he won't be picked up, though. We can pencil him in.
Next Recruiting Meeting:
He's 90% certain to come, but a couple of VFL clubs are sniffing around too and one AFL club has visited him. He's still 90% certain he'll come though.
Next Recruiting Meeting
You wouldn't believe it, Cenwood, Glurt and bloody Nouth have all contacted him now, but he says he's 80% certain to be with us.
Next Recruiting Meeting
Things are looking up. If he comes to SA, he'll play with us, he could go to the VFL and another AFL club is interested, but I've checked every phantom draft and he's not mentioned at all, so we look pretty good. I'd say he's 70% likely to come to us. He won't get drafted, but is, at best, just an outside rookie draft chance, so we can pretty well pencil him in.
Draft Night:
Gil McLachlan
"Pick No 40 odd or 50 odd, who cares any more - Young Fella, Grong Grong Matong Walpeup Underbool Never Heard of Him Football Club"
Next Recruiting Meeting
Looks like we need a key forward. We've been put on to this Young Bloke, looks terrific, we're the only club.........................

Yep would be a lot of man hours for little return when it comes to Sanfl recruiters at times (in fact In sure it applies to all levels beneath the AFL). Unfortunate part of the game, but all clubs share the same risk and have been unlucky before on the same front.

Very much so.
All pretty normal at most clubs.

Correct, Scrunch.
No particular player, BP, just a general bit of whimsy based on what often happens with recruiting.
