hypothetical re Magarey Medal

if a ''top up'' player plays for Adelaide & his SANFL team during the year & happens to earn enough votes to win the Magarey Medal how would it be recorded in the history books ?

ok..Heres another hypothetical...
At seasons end WWt are found guilty by the SANFL for breaching the salary cap.(only hypothetic!!)
WWT , being of a litigious nature decide to appeal, and the case eventually ends up in the Supreme court for example.
WWt argue that they have no idea what the salary cap was because 2 teams  in the SANFL who were also playing for premiership points,were
not complying with it from the start...while the other 8 were working to a different set of rules...with the knowledge of the SANFL....
Im no QC.. but I wonder how this scenario would play out...?
