Obviously Timmy Evans and Balmey didn't know the words to the anthem and needed a few love taps to keep themselves amused for 2 minutes.

In hindsight, maybe it was a bit dumb having the respective opponents square off for 2 minutes whilst the anthem was played.

Fantastic era of football.

Loved picking up the Footy Times and reading it after school.

Footy was great; there were personalities; good coverage on tv.

To be the first team to win a SANFL flag from fifth was quite an achievement

I would agree with that. There were some fantastic sides - Port in 1980; West 1983; Glenelg 85/86 were very good, and North played great footy in mid 80's, culminating in their premiership in 87.

Port then did very well to finish the decade off how they started it.

I watched the 1984 Grand Final on DVD a couple of years back, to revisit a day that was one of my favorite in football. Its amazing how, while your mind plays tricks over time, some parts remain exactly as they happened.

Keith Thomas's mark, which will forever live in folklore.

Michael Aish starting his run down the wing in a Northerly direction, whereas his nephew did something very similar from almost the exact same spot in a Southerly direction 28 years later.

I actually thought the 1960s through to the mid 70s was the best standard, it certainly drew better overall crowds and was a more even comp, but it is a subjective call.

As a North follower I was amazed that the 1984 team only won 6 games out of 21, yet had a percentage of over 50. That is why I was quite confident that North would be around the place in 1985 with a couple of key players returning from long term injury.

WT finished on equal wins with NA and had almost 6 % less percentage than NA

In a 22 round season WT with 2138 points was the lowest for total
Every other team scored above 2200 points
Thus, each of those 9 teams averaged over 100 points per game
It certainly was an entertaining and high standard of football in the those times

On the Roosters , I must say , that in the Main, they have been a highly entertaining team to observe from the 70s to current day teams

In the next season onwards, for the decade, Nunans Roosters were just about the most breathtaking side Ive seen play in the SANFL

A difficult hypothetical question for Norwood fans - which players, if any, from your 2012 Premiership team would make your 1984 Premiership team, and at the expense of which 1984 player(s)?

I don't follow the Legs, but I don't think many players at all from 2012, would make the '84 side.
