Just a health update
I’m struggling with some health issues not from the brain injury. It started as gout first medication didn’t agree with me and I went deathly white . When I stopped that medication people were saying I looked deathly white . Now I was put on another gout med and doctor asked me to stop eating gout causing food . Here’s where I stuffed up I followed the instructions one pill for three days then another few days took some more . Wasn’t supposed to caused me to a very painful over dose of gout medication. This led to me being very low potassium got that sorted had my diabetes Hb1ac blood test . Hb1ac was good unfortunately protein showed up in my urine ( got to do another test end of February) . So while that went down I had three weeks off of volunteering for jobseeker. Meanwhile my bad knee played up hasn’t stopped was really swollen that’s eased . Waiting to get an appointment at the QEH over my knee .
Not looking good so far I can’t do much . Hopefully I’ll improve.

I forgot to say I’m waiting to see a orthopaedic surgeon at the QEH over my knee . I was at the RAH ER Sunday
Also perhaps seeing an endocrinologist or kidney specialist later .

Re: Just a health update
I’ve had gout & am a diabetic, I’ve cut down a lot on salt, caffeine & citrus acids for the gout & haven’t a a problem since, for the diabetes coke got stopped immediately & am on coke no sugar not that the doctor is happy about it, he said it’s better but it has to many chemicals in it to be any good & I am off the flavoured milk drinks along with chocolates etc, haven’t had a problem with either since.
Just cut out or at least back on all the above mentioned stuff I cut back on or cut out totally
Obviously drinking water will flush out your kidneys too
Good luck Mickyj

Thanks Bayman been diabetic for 13 years that parts in hand last Hb1ac test was 5.4
Gout is under control two different gout meds that weren’t good for me . Plus cut out foods that cause gout like spinach cauliflower mushrooms which led to low potassium. Gout and potassium back to normal levels .
I drink water like a fish lol coke no sugar black tea
However my GP was confused my Hb1ac level is good my cholesterol is good . How my protein levels got into my urine is a surprise having another urine test end of the month .
Now the knee everyone thinks needs to be replaced
It’s arthritis though the ER doc thought gout
Knee I’m waiting on the orthopaedic department at the QEH to contact me .
Protein might need an endocrinologist or kidney doctor or it could be nothing .

Should’ve gone to emergency but after the RAH weren’t happy to help I’ve stayed home

Re: Just a health update
I remember the first time I got gout
I thought i had a broken BIG toe
The pain was excruciating
The weight of a blanket on my BIG toe was agony
Next day at the GP
He told me I had gout
He made out 2 prescriptions
1 for a pain killer
The other for Viagra
I asked the GP
" I understand the pain killers but why have you prescribed me Viagra." ?
The Doc replied
" The Viagra is to keep the blanket off your BIG toe ."

Re: Just a health update
Ok thanks everyone have gotten another three month exemption from Centrelink. Just for the record I almost fell three times leaving my doctor and getting to Centrelink today . So Tuesday I start physio . And in may I have to get paperwork filled in to have a JCA with everything wrong with me health wise . It’s a surprise to me that Centrelink doesn’t know arthritis is permanent.
Forgot I have a kidney issue that’s on the back burner until the knee is fixed

Re: Just a health update
Ok just an update . Still having issues exempt until the 5 th of the 5th. What I’ve learnt last week I was over doing it . Limping on one leg to the bus stop to go to the city to see my doctor. Did the same going to Centrelink on Henley beach rd . Still having near falls while I’m out ,
So better news seeing a physiotherapist who is trying to get a specialist to drain the cyst . Now the physiotherapist has seen I have the bakers cyst and arthritis plus she thinks cartilage damage . So I have had to buy a walking stick not just to stop me falling down but to help my hips along with the knee . This week I’m going walking in the water at a local pool . Plus I have a phone assessment from Centrelink not sure why or what they will tell me .
Before that call I have another Telehealth call with my doctor . We have cutback the number of pain killers I take in a day . Scrappy the gout issue is good gout under control potassium normal cholesterol great HB1AC great .
So hopefully I keep improving
Have two leg exercises to do a day
Plus walking in water
