The loss of Chris Jansen is a blow, but I'm sure the Dogs will recruit to cover him.

Re: Centrals 2018: The Empire Strikes Back
I predict a very good 2018 for Central Districts
Brilliant finish to 2017 , went very well after re signing one of the greatest SANFL coaches of all time , Roy Laird in the latter part of the 2017 season
Chris Jansen will be a loss
The bulldogs look strong for 2018 and a flag contender, if they gain a couple of good ins, that will further enhance their chances

Is Josh Glen a certainty for 2018?

Scrappy we can go well if we play the footy we played late in the season if we serve up the other rubbish from earlier we will struggle again.

They weren't fit enough earlier in the season, this will be rectified for next season

Re: Centrals 2018: The Empire Strikes Back
I compare Roy Laird in the SANFL with Bart Cummings with Melbourne Cups
Some of Lairds past seasons sides seem to peak by finals time
As for 2017 , did Laird have CD peaking by finals ?
Early in 2017 CD teams were not finishing off in the 2nd halfs
By finals they seemed to be fitter , and got on a roll
I thought they were just a tad unlucky not to beat Sturt in the 2017 final
If they did they might have won the premiership

Talking to one of the senior coaching staff recently, they were confident Josh would be in red, white and blue in 2018.

Hopefully for the Dogs sake he is, because he has Magarey level ability. If he can start 2018 as he finished this season, the Dogs will be much better off for it.

Sadly, you were onto something, mate.
Couldn't agree more. Showed in the finals series what he is capable of.

Re: Centrals 2018: The Empire Strikes Back
Josh Glenn officially is an official OUT for the Dogs, retiring from SANFL football.
Confirmed by the man himself, on his Social Media pages this afternoon.
Will be playing in the BLG Competition again with Willaston.

That's a shame Phil. He was an enjoyable player to watch, the likes of which the competition can't afford to keep losing.

OUTS
COLLIER
DUNN
EDMEAD
GLENN
HOLMAN
JANSEN
PRIOR
REICHERT
STEVENS
WALDHUTER
RECRUITS
HARRIS
MAHONEY
MAITLAND
OBRIEN
OGORMAN
If I have overlooked any others or the above listings are incorrect , please post
Lost 3 star players in Glenn, Holman and Jansen, but have retained a great coach
Were perhaps the equal best team in the comp at the end of the 2017 finals
Will any of the new recruits impact as much as the exodus of talent leaving ?
Prediction
3rd-7th

Re: Centrals 2018: The Empire Strikes Back
2-2 after 4 rounds with a good % of 57.36
Have played 3 games at Cartwright Oval , prob should have been 3-1 by now
Need to be at least 5-5 , but could end up about 4-6
Superb coach who seemingly gets the best from his teams means they are still a finals contender
Expected minor round finish
5th-8th

Re: Centrals 2018: The Empire Strikes Back
7-11 [8th]
Lost a core of good players from 2017
I had thought they would do better, despite the player drain
Had enough good players to finish a couple of rungs higher
Good coach, that means they should re-generate within the next year or 2

Re: Centrals 2018: The Empire Strikes Back
Three big issues we had were costly
1 Inability to play 4 qtrs
2 Terrible skills
3 A game plan that had no one forward of centre bit hard to score with that style
IT HASNT WORKED FOR THE LAST 3 SEASONS BUT WE PERSIST WITH IT

Re: Centrals 2018: The Empire Strikes Back
We will probably persist with it next season also, nothing wrong with our club apparently.
Our lack of recruiting didn't help either, our worst crop of recruits I can remember.

Re: Centrals 2018: The Empire Strikes Back
Need a miracle as far as I'm concerned.
We need to keep most of our list together....probably won't happen for obvious reasons.
We require some quality recruits which might be too hard because we don't have the finances.
The clubs needs to identify better talent and not persist with unskilled not upto the standard footballers
