Given the number of players leaving, Glenelg have come up with a relatively strong side. They look to have pace and it might be a question of how long it takes them to gell.
Trial form would suggest not long, so they will be hard to beat.
The small oval under lights with a big crowd will give a great atmosphere.

The proceedings are shaping up to be bigger than Ben Hur.
Before the main game, there'll be an opeining cermoney, including the National Anthem!
Why the Anthem, it's a special occasion for Glenelg, but hardly a National Anthem occasion.

They also had the anthem at Thebarton last week. Bit strange.

Well , that was an ugly game of footy. Glenelg deserved their win against a West side that fell into error and had several players down on form.
West's third quarter was marred by several 25 metre penalties and their poor discipline (again) is something the quickly need to get out of their game.
Losing Brad Fisher before half-time and Fort Caruso after that didn't help.
For West fans, though, Taite Silverlock burnt in the Reserves, along with Rory Laird and Nick Homburg.
Good to meet 85 Was A Good Year, too.

West's League List when its carrying no injuries seems to be amongst the best in the league. Its good to see that despite the loss today that good form was shown by several in the magoos, think this is the way forward for West, pressure on the league side by lads that want a game is going to keep pushing West up the ladder when those injuries do come and other lads come into the league side.

So how did it go with noise after people were leaving the ground - the issue the local residents group were so concerned about?

A very frustrating game to watch, low scoring despite the good conditions. West struggled to move the ball forward quickly, same as the bad times of last year.
Thought the lights were okay, but couldn't see the scoreboard or time clock properly in the dark.

Seems to me to be the same SHITE, time for the club to make a BIG decision before our season is once again down the drain just like our membership.

A win is a win, good start to the season, get 2 points and try to get some confidence among the young group.

Yes, nice to meet you too R&B, sorry I could chat longer
Positives for me was the form of Hender up forward and Craig Pitt was geat in his debut. Sam Rudolph, Kane Tenace & Ben Mules showed us they are fit and ready for 2012.
Negative was the idiot in the crowd who let off the flare at the end
Maybe people who watched the Crows on TV were expecting a bigger crowd so stayed at home thinking they'd have trouble getting a park or there'd be a long queue to get in.
Not too many Westies supporters turned up, but I think the Friday night match against Sturt will attract a big turnout. Anyway we've got North & the Eagles before then

Normally Collins blames the umpires for these when they happen against Glenelg.
Personally I thought West Adelaide's second quarter in particular was horrible, all effort seemed to be focused on flooding when in defence, several times West players emerging across half-back simply had no one to kick to. Games involving West are the worst games to watch from a spectator point of view and their game plan doesn't seem to be doing their own club any favours either.

Re: Glenelg v West at Glenelg
interesting comment (more than once) on the life fm call of last nights game by Mr Cooper, he said that he expected West to run over the top of Glenelg as Glenelg will get tired, i can not for the 'life' of me work how in round 1 EITHER team would get more tired than the other given there were no apparent injuries at the time of these comments.....................
as for the game, take the 2 points & move on, i was impressed with our endeavor, commitment & so on plus the fact we tried to go long for most of the night, although under pressure in the second half we did lapse back into the 'chipping keepings off mentality' but to be challenged & respond to it was the most pleasing factor, i'm sure R.Kirkby will take mark of the year, we just TB to get us a tv game, agree with the better players already mentioned from other snouts with obviously L.Hender the standout, it is now up to him to become a consistent league player by doing this every week, no pressure on you though Lewie

Not true, The coach was very scathing for the lack of dicipline by our players giving away all of those 25 metre penalties during the game. This is one aspect of the game he is very hot on.
Players mouthing of to umpires after a decision is made has nothing to do with the coach.
