there are two scams (that i know of) going around at the moment....

scam no 1 they ring your house telling you that there has been an accident & can you come to the police station

this is to get you out of the house so there is time for your house to be quickly ransacked, i was also informed if there is an accident & the police need to talk to other members of families etc they will come to your door & speak face to face with whatever news they have

scam no 2 there are infringement notices sent via emails, this is also a scam, police advise not to give any details & in fact do not open them & just delete the email as no infringement notices are given via email

be warned & be careful

Doesn't happen anymore for two reasons, 1) because hardly anyone goes & 2) those that do a betting on the phones etc

However I wouldn't class that as a scam in the sense of those others

I'm not sure this is an ongoing scam
I'm an Optus customer
Before I swapped to Optus after moving from my old house . Indians would call up constantly saying I owe Telstra money .
At the old house it wasn't to often as far as I know .
But back in 2010 when we moved to Richmond changed phone numbers and swapped to Optus the calls got far worse 6 an hour all Indians telling whoever answered the phone we owe Telstra money on Internet line rental .
I went into an Optus store said it was a scam.
I just went home unplugged my landline no more Indians calling me saying I owe Telstra money .

Do these scumbags still do this .

this happened today to my parents, they got a call claiming to be centrelink & saying ''we've noticed you haven't filled out forms that would entitle you to a bit more money'' so dad goes down there this afternoon & got told it is a scam & its been going on for about 3 months

he didn't give details over the phone & wasn't asked, so i can't see where ''they'll sting you'' unless others have given their details over the phone, centrelink also told him that if they have any queries they would send the necessary paperwork in the post & never ever by phone

The "Microsoft" people are back ringing around to say that my computer is sending messages that it has a virus or has been hacked. They have rung my mother a couple of times and she has great delight in leading them on for 10 minutes before telling them she doesn't have a computer.
One of them had the cheek of complaining that she was wasting their time. Smile

Good old mum, that's brilliant, when we get calls at work for phones or websites my boss says "what's a phone" or "what's a website"

A female sounding robotic voice claiming to be from Telstra calling me 2 times in 4 hours saying they have been trying to get in touch with me re the NBN availability in my area and my telephone land line will be cut off in the next 24 hours if i don't connect to the NBN, press 1 to talk to a technician.
Do not press 1 on your phone if you get that call, it's a scam.

I’m not sure the continuing energy calls from every state are classed as scams . But they are very annoying I don’t give my number out very often they seem to get it . Yesterday afternoon and this afternoon two calls from Victoria I get the beep then they talk so today’s I heard the beep so I hung up . Both callers blocked .
I’m over energy companies some I’ve never heard of keep calling !!!!
