They are certainly targeting experience.
Logical I guess given that is what they have mostly lost.
If they go for young blokes only in the system for a few years, they would look like GWS in year 1.
I suppose they're hoping that the experience isn't over the hill. (Windy? )

Apparently Essendon have already signed 6 of their 10. Plus 2 more who seem to be spoken for. Jamar who's already at the club as a ruck coach, and some fellow from Sandringham, who's name I can't recall. That only leaves a couple more, and the media are saying they're looking at talls. Most likely from Vic competitions.

The CAS decision was the appeal, last year the players were provisionally suspended ( that's why Petrenko et al played NAB Cup 2015 ) by WADA and the appeal was heard by CAS. So there is no more avenue to appeal.
According to Peter Gordon they have 30 days from the handing down of the decision to lodge an appeal with the Swiss Federal Tribunal.
Looks like the appeal is on.

Will be interesting to see if the players are permitted to play whilst the appeal process is being carried out, or if they remain suspended?

I read somewhere that they will not be permitted to play in the interim, and that the appeal may not be heard for about a year.

if what you read ''Flag No 10'' is correct it is then a waste of time & money going to court

This is from an article in "The Age" today.
"It's understood the players have not sought an injunction, meaning they will remain suspended this year."

I don't have a problem with it TBH. It will not interfere with the season at all and if players/club want to spend more money trying to clear themselves that's their right. Was definately not keen on any injunctions or the likebayman wrote:Flag No.10 wrote:Ben W wrote:Will be interesting to see if the players are permitted to play whilst the appeal process is being carried out, or if they remain suspended?

No top up players for St.Kilda,Melbourne, Port or the Bulldogs.
So the convicted drug cheats play season 2016 with more players on their list than Port Adelaide. Well played AFL, well played.

Booney, did Port start the season with a deliberate decision to not have a full list?

We will have a full primary list, but we will have 3 rookies instead of 5, as Essendon will have.

Spoke to Will Snelling and Riley Bonner Friday night.
They're enjoying their time at Port.

look at the bright side you will save money on player payments and might use the money to pay off some of your debt to the sanfl.Booney wrote:We will have a full primary list, but we will have 3 rookies instead of 5, as Essendon will have.

Port gave the SANFL $1m this year. I think the money not paid to Monfries and Ryder this year will mean Port only pay about 96% (+/- ) of the TPP, as such next year we can pay 104%, so I think Ollie Wines might be in for a nice little payday.

That leaves the SANFL owed only $15 million.

At the AGM it was noted :
The aim off field has been to show stability and increase not only membership but the very important corporate support. This too, has been very successful, up 140% since 2012. Investment in the Aboriginal and Broader Community program reached $1.5m in 2015. There was also a direct payment of $1m to the SANFL
I'll see what more I can find about this.
It might be Adelaide's rent at Footy Park, I'm not sure.

I love a good tarp gag. They're so, so.....what's the word, umm...so, oh yeah, unoriginal, old, lacking creativity.

Could this payment be an instalment on buying back their licence from the SANFL?
