Sturt Cheer Squad
The Sturt Cheer Squad is under the microscope again.
They hadn't forgotten Adam Hartlett's incident last year and gave him heaps all day.
I believe Sturt are aware of it and will take appropriate action.

What sort of "heaps" are we talking about Lee? Do you mean over and above the standard heckling that players cop?

Don't blame them for not forgetting what happened...
Of course, the supporter involved had himself to blame, but not sure the Sturt fans will forgot what happened for a while now and, as others have mentioned, are always going to give Adam some banter...
What was said or happened, outside of 'banter'that warranted microscopes and follow-up action?

Re: Sturt Cheer Squad
As the matter is being handled by Sturt, I'm reluctant to go into any detail and I'm only going on very reliable reports (not from Adam).
Your rush to defend the Sturt Cheer Squad is admirable, Phil, but I believe it was far from 'banter'. Perhaps constant abuse, obscenities and extreme allegations might be closer.
I don't think 'banter' is referred to Sturt and the SANFL for action, Phil, but I suppose you are giving the Sturt Cheer Squad the benefit of the doubt due to their fine history and reputation.

Difficult one to deal with when you have to draw a line between freedom of speech and slander, personally I think the family friendly area is one of the best things about SANFL grounds and think several of them could be increased in size for people who enjoy the family friendly atmosphere at matches. Yet I concede that many also very much like the banter at the ends of the ground also, yet its a good thing that both are offered.

The bloke that held them together to keep check on activities, left about 5 years ago, because of this sort of thing. He'd had enough and you can't blame him.
I think the club is well aware of who is there to act on it if necessary.

Yes, this sort of thing keeps happening while there isn't any strong action, but hopefully there will be now.
It's important to differentiate between elements of the Cheer Squad and the vast majority of Blues supporters who just go to the footy to cheer their team on and engage in the normal banter we all enjoy.

Re: Sturt Cheer Squad
I know the club has been very guarded over the years in getting too enthusiastic to the more beneficial CS activities such as banners and the like, given the difficulties with their conduct at times. This goes back quite some time.
The chap I mentioned, did build bridges between the CS and club, to the point that they did encourage them and back their activities in a measured sense. I don't know what the current situation is, as I am not close enough to it anymore.
Suffice to say that it seems a lot still remains unchecked.
It is a pity because back about 5 years they offered some colour to games in the proper way.

Re: Sturt Cheer Squad
we all know every club has idiot supporters, so with that in mind i'll say generally speaking if ANY club made it clear to a group their supporters that offensive behaviour will not be tolerated & then they over step the mark a second time, ANY club should make it known that they aren't welcome & aren't true loyal supporters..........i would think a statement like that would hit home & the penny would drop
there are plenty of ''smart'' & ''funny'' comments that can be said at the footy without crossing the line
