Notorious moments in SANFL
Most of the time, we talk of the highlights of SANFL, but there have been some notorious on-field moments over the journey. Would be very interested to hear from anyone at some of these moments from my era:
- Craig Balme/Tim Evans, pre-game 1984 Grand Final: I was there that day and at the time, it created a furore, but over time, the legend has exceeded the actual incident to a degree
- Robert Muir jumps the fence when playing for Woodville: During his fourth game for the Warriors, Muir had enough of taunts from a spectator and leapt into the crowd to deliver his thoughts face to face.
- Stephen Riley breaks Roger Luders' jaw during a West v North match: Luders was never the same player ever again.
- Patrick Wiggins leaves the field mid-match while playing for West Reserves against North at Prospect, takes off his jumper and walks through the crowd, having an altercation with a spectator in 2007. I was also there for this and it was one of the strangest things I've ever witnessed in football. He drove off minutes later, still without a jumper on.
Fire away, folks, what are some of your memories over the years?

The 1978 GF still haunts me.
Especially when John Wynne decided he would rough up Jack Oatey when he ran into the Sturt Coaching box. Insiders say that it ruffled JO for the rest of the game and just perhaps his coaching suffered from it too.

I was there that day, in the clip below shows how late the hit was, from memory West kicked over 30 goals that day and that hit on Luders was late in the match. Pity the video doesn't show Rotten Ronnie Andrews chasing down Ryley just after the event. West went on to play North again in the Preliminary final and lost by 7 pts without Luders of course. Note the trainers wearing ties.

Stan Wickham bicycle incident.
Johnston/Dilena 1988
Kerley/Nygard
Obst/Honor
What year did Carey miss a really important game due to suspension? Sorry my memory failing me.
Norwood/Centrals brawl before 1st bounce, circa 1988. Youtube footage exists.
Aish whacking Bradley Ryan after being sick of his niggling tactics.
Fitzsimmons, Sims and others in '91 grand final.
Various brawls in grand finals between '85 and '87 - I think there was Wildy/Kernahan clash; Parsons fired up, as did a heap of others
