I'm excited with the new Pope being non-European, although I wish that one day, the conclave will vote in a younger Pope! An interesting job to gain at age 76!

A little more info on the man himself. This could be a new era for the Catholic Church. Perhaps some much needed reform is on its way??

Someone needs to lead the brainwashing institutes, I guess.

And another one...
But in all fairness to you and fellow posters that share your view, and me trying to answer honestly here, I do not know of the Argentinian situation, but I do hope that he gives more acknowledgement to the victims than any previous Pope has.
We need to stamp it out as quickly as possible and acknowledge past and present wrongdoings.
Let's face facts, the Church won't topple over because of it, there are 1.2 billion Catholics in the world, and maybe the church will convert to a system of lay ministry without priests, nuns and brothers in the future, but I have always maintained the stance that those that have been accused and found guilty of such evil behaviour should serve their punishment and not hide behind the church. That's just cowardly.
What I opposed in previous arguments was the personal slandering about ALL Catholics being sexual abusers. I believe, however, we opposing posters have worked through the issues and although we remain on opposite sides of the fence, I'm happy to discuss any further enquires, concerns or opinions with anyone who is willing to, without the personal attacks.
Thanks for your understanding.

Re: New Catholic Pope
Mine was not a troll, thankyou. Simply saying it as I see it. Each to their own.....I dont get all the fuss myself.
Your point about the modern world is a salient one BC. I for one ( albeit with a view not in agreeance with yours ) think the church ( yours, amongst others ) have almost ignored the advances man has made, and plenty of steps backwards as noted above, for too long.
"Getting with the times" would do no harm.

nothing like that has ever happened around the areas of Alberton, Semaphore, North Haven, Taparoo, Cheltenham etc etc hey Mr Booney ?
as for the actual title, does that mean there are Pope's leading other congregations/denomintions etc in the world ? this is a serious question as i wasn't aware of the possibility of Pope being anything else bar the head of state at the Vatican

If this were a football topic and this question was asked, it would go something along the lines of the following parable;
Port Adelaide have just appointed their favoured son, John Cahill as President of the club.
The first question asked of him is "Are there any drug cheats in your club? As it is a major issue you are going to have to deal with."
Surely the first statement could at least be "Congratulations, John. good luck."
I am sure he would be patently aware of the major issues ahead.

Regarding your getting with the times - I wholeheartedly agree.
Treat it how you wish....you have your opinion and I'll have mine.

I'm with Booney on this one.
I don't see his questioning as trolling at all.

Re: New Catholic Pope
So Politics has met with some objective difficulty, Religion has met the same fate (even over the minor issue of a new Pope). Well that leaves just one subject to go in the great wisdom debate.
Shall we start with "Women are obviously inferior to men".
.........I really do hope that you all treat this as a rhetorical question, poking fun at the contradictions that the former subjects have revealed.
.....But then I am not so sure that it will be treated as such.

Re: New Catholic Pope
You make a good point about those topics having problems, Chambo.
The answer is one of two things: either to ban discussion on such topics, or to encourage objective and respectful discussion.
You are right, though, that these subjects often cause problems, but it would be nice to think that TFSA could become a place where contentious issues could be discussed in an intelligent and respectful way. That may be impossible, but I think it is something worth aiming for.
It only takes all of us to start again, keep to the rules and have respect for every genuine poster.
Worth aiming for, IMO.
