Westies will have no listed AFL players in the finals from that list

Lobbe has been missed out.
Presumably won't play anyway.

Rory Laird has been missed too. And Brad Crouch. Not a great effort really, and why include players in teams that can't make the finals?

Simon Phillips, Luke Brown and Mitchell Grigg should play for the Redlegs. That appears to be all at this stage.

Re: AFL players in SANFL finals
i wonder whether we'll get a farcical situation with a Crows player playing reserves finals for another team ? it was bad enough when Brett Ebert played in a reserves final for Port several years ago but at least that was with his original team..........how a reserves final would help at this stage baffles me

Might happen with the Sturt players from the crows playing in the sturt reserves side. Jenkins, Tambling, Martin, Jaensch, maybe Riley would need to play some footy as they could be required by the crows later in the finals.
I'm pretty sure they are allowed as long as the crows are still competing.

Hmmm .... an advantage Melbourne based clubs with their own reserves team doesn't have.

Both rookie listed players who have played all year, a bit different to a senior player I would think.

There's plenty of other rookies listed there testy. And Crouch isn't strictly a rookie.

Ok, my point is rookies have been with there respective clubs all year, thats all, so I don't really count them as being bonuses come finals time, and the last I heard Crouch is a rookie also, what has changed ?

Re: AFL players in SANFL finals
I was saying Laird was an omission from a list that claims to be the "complete" list of AFL-listed players who have qualified, a list which contains many other rookies.
Crouch is on Adelaide's senior list, not rookie list; but is unable to play AFL because he's under-age.

How does that work? I know James Aish cannot be drafted at all because he's underage.

I think it's because he's a GC or GWS pre-draft concession pick. There's been certain clauses in the last two drafts to help out balance the comp with the new teams coming in. I think because GWS took Phil Davis, Adelaide were able to select Crouch. I could be wrong though.

That's my memory of it too HTWWW. I think Crouch was one of the 17 year-olds that GWS could select as priority picks. Adelaide got a compensation pick for losing Phil Davis to GWS and traded that and a national draft pick for (I think) Luke Brown and pick 2 in the AFL mini draft, which allows you to pre-list players who are too young to play AFL.

They're AFL rules ... they aren't supposed to make sense.

Re: AFL players in SANFL finals
Mark Ross is correct, all season Norwood have had the policy of selecting teams without AFL players and treating it like a bonus if they play. That comes from the time a player was taken from us in the 3rd quarter of a Reserves match once. At times, we've never known who was in the final 21 until they ran onto the field, and even then you couldn't be 100% certain.
I just wonder if these players would be available if they played for the Magpies.

Re: AFL players in SANFL finals
Is it correct to say that almost all Crows players are still available (given that Adelaide are still in the finals), but Simon Phillips is about the only Port player made available?
Does this indicate that Phillips is likely to be delisted?

Jai Bednall just tweeted on his MMCM page that Norwood will not have David Rodan play for them in the SANFL finals this year...

Re: AFL players in SANFL finals
Methinks the die has been cast. Why would SANFL clubs want any AFL player next year? Since the Crows will probably have their own reserves team it only leaves the Power players to worry about. Now if the SANFL clubs decide thay have had enough of AFL players they would have to be unanimous otherwise you give too much advantage to those clubs still accepting AFl players dropping back. So far so good but its unlikely the Magpies are going to accept this being one club and all in which case the Power gets its defacto reserve side. Does the majority vote of SANFL clubs over rule the individual clubs? Interesting to see how this will pan out.
