Goal kicking accuracy
This table shows the clubs in current ladder order with their goalkicking accuracy (to date) calculated on the basis of goals scored this season from total scoring shots.
Norwood 53%
Central 58%
West 49%
North 56%
Glenelg 54%
Eagles 51%
Port 56%
South 61%
Sturt 50%
West is the only team to have kicked more behinds than goals (190 goals 191 behinds), though Sturt have kicked 188 goals 188 behinds.
West is also the only team to have more behinds than goals scored against them.
It's interesting that South have kicked 35 more goals than West (about 2 per game) but have won 7 fewer games. I don't know whether that says more about South's defence and midfielders, or their game plan.

Re: Goal kicking accuracy
I'm surprised Norwood's conversion rate is similar to most other clubs. We appear to take most of our shots from more difficult angles than other sides. I guess teams who tend to play more down the middle don't have as many shots as others.
Norwood's conversion rate would be assisted by the number of times they have players running onto the ball inside 50 and running into open goal. Our set shot conversion wouldn't be anywhere near 53%.

Good point, AH.
I've often bemoaned West's inaccuracy. The first game against Norwood at Richmond was a good example of that, 4.12 to 5.7.
It's not only the lost 5 points for a missed shot, it's also the loss of momentum.

Re: Goal kicking accuracy
When you've lost to a team and your behind total is more than their scoring shots combined, it has to be the most disappointing type of loss.
I'd like to see this season's accuracy rates compared with seasons past. I don't think Westies' would have altered much? We're always kicking behinds!
