All things Sturt 2022
can the Blues get back into finals action in 2022 ?
after all they cost themselves from missing finals in 2021 with home losses to Central & Adelaide
personally i think they'll be the ''big improvers'' & my tip to go top, especially if Patrick Wilson is healthy

I believe that Casey Voss & Jarrod Liernert have signed on, if Pat Wilson stays on the ground you’d have to think they’ll be a top 3 side in 2022…..definitely cost themselves playing finals this year
sorry, i put Corey instead of Casey, my error, apologies for that
i'll be very happy if the bookies put up double figure odds....i have a feeling they will & that would be great value

Yes agree 100%.
What contributed was;
- In hindsight, I think the new guys that hadn't played under Marty probably took a while too to adapt to his style from Grima's.
- Injuries to key players particularly Paddy.
- A suspect forward line. We missed the Patullo of 2019. The loss of Johnson in mid-season draft didn't help. This area still needs a bit of work I think.
They have signed some big forward fella from the hills by the name of Schoell too. Untried, but sometimes you hit the lottery.
Lienert and Wilson (almost a new recruit in a way) will add that key afl experience and on field direction much like Broadbent and Gibbs have with South.
Casey Voss will get better I think too, as he's only really had one year at it in the A's. It was anticipated he would at least be rookied somewhere in afl, but perhaps speed is an issue.
Nevertheless, happy to keep him in a bolstered midfield.
As I said somewhere else, Mattner will be making his own pass mark finals and possibly top 3 and then we will see from there. You would honestly have to aim for that.

The Blues are finally debt free wiping the near $3M it owed in 2011.
Its been a long arduous road to hoe for the club but led by CEO Sue Dewing and the Board I think they should be rightfully proud of that effort.

Now need to get used to referring to Unley as Wigan Oval.
Feels like a move to greater Lancashire.

It was also a great time to be a Reserves footballer, going from $100 a game to $750 a game.
A money tree.

Off topic, I know, but why did North Adelaide not get Jobkeeper?
It was mentioned at North's AGM, that the other clubs got Jobkeeper last year, North didn't but the Board didn't explain why? North did still make a $600,00 profit.

Not sure, unless their turnover didn't drop by more than 30%?

The lord giveth and the lord taketh away....
Jarrod Lienert has signed with the Saints....more or less to play VFL methinks.

Something just over a 100 point turnaround required to dislodge the Blues from 5th.
50 point loss to North & 60 point win by the Eagles over South this week might go close to doing it.
If wet and horrible, those 2 scenarios both occurring are a long shot.
No matter either way, I think it is a 4 horse race.
Sturt can't seem to beat sides above them (save for Adelaide for some reason), nor the Eagles either.
Glenelg are patchy and not quite on top form.
I'm not too sure about Adelaide.
Looking a little like North and Norwood starting to firm for the GF?

Re: All things Sturt 2022
Agree Chambo, it’s a North v Norwood grand final for mine, the mid season draft put a big dent into the chance Glenelg had, we’ve lost 4 of our 6 beating two teams out of the 5, however the mid season swapping back to Norwood from Port by Luke Surman has straightened Norwood & structured them up beautifully, I actually think whoever wins the elimination final will make & then lose the preliminary final as a weakened Adelaide goes out in straight sets

Re: All things Sturt 2022
Yes I think a pass mark is about right.
Depth is a worry, particularly forward line.
Abe Davis can kick goals, but was dropped or the North game due to his defensive ambivalence. Did not dominate in the reserves either.
No certainty to return this week for the Elimination Final....or even thereafter.
The win against North was good, but I suspect North conserving their energies now for a full tilt in a couple of weeks.
